Abstract

Disclosed is a topical skin composition and corresponding methods for its use that includes a topical skin composition comprising an extract from Burretiodendron hsienmu.

Claims (18)

1. A topical skin composition comprising an extract from Burretiodendron hsienmu , an extract from Wendlandia uvarifolia , an extract from Bauhinia glauca , and a dermatologically acceptable vehicle.

2. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein the extract is an alcoholic or aqueous extract.

3. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein the dermatologically acceptable vehicle is an emulsion.

4. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein the dermatologically acceptable vehicle is a cream, lotion, or solution.

5. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition includes from about 0.001% to about 5% by weight of said extract.

6. The topical skin composition of claim 5 , wherein the composition comprises a moisturization agent, an antioxidant, a structuring or thickening agent, and an emulsifier.

7. The topical skin composition of claim 6 , wherein the composition further includes a silicone containing compound.

8. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further includes a sunscreen agent.

9. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein said extract is obtained from the whole plant of Burretiodendron hsienmu.

10. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein said extracts from Wendlandia uvarifolia and Bauhinia glauca are aqueous or alcoholic extracts.

11. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein said extract from Burretiodendron hsienmu is a tyrosinase inhibitor.

12. A method of treating skin comprising topically applying the composition of claim 1 to skin in need thereof, wherein topical application of said composition treats said skin.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the composition inhibits tyrosinase activity in said skin.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the composition is applied to uneven skin tone.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the composition is applied to a sun spot, age spot, or liver spot.

16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the composition is applied to hyperpigmented skin or melasmic skin.

17. The method of claim 12 , wherein the extract from Burretiodendron hsienmu is an alcoholic or aqueous extract.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the extract is obtained from the whole plant of Burretiodendron hsienmu.
