X-ray contrast media compositions and methods of using the same to treat, reduce or delay the onset of CNS inflammation and inflammation associated conditions
View Patent ↗Embodiments disclosed herein relate to improved X-ray contrast media compositions and methods of using the same for treating symptoms related to allergic reactions, inflammatory conditions, symptoms of the common cold and certain cancers.
1. A method of treating inflammation of the central nervous system (CNS) in a human in need thereof , comprising administering to the human in need thereof a composition comprising one or more X-ray contrast media in an amount sufficient to treat said inflammation of the CNS and zinc in an amount sufficient to activate an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), wherein the amount of zinc is from 0.1×10 −3 mg to 4×10 −3 mg, and wherein
a) the X-ray contrast media comprises a triiodinated, benzene moiety;
b) the X-ray contrast media is a non-ionic monometer, non-ionic dimer, ionic monomer or ionic dimer; and
c) the composition is administered directly to CNS tissue.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered to CNS tissue topically.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered to CNS tissue by administering the composition into a nasal passage.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the composition is administered or provided to the nasal passage in a manner to permit the composition to reach the superior portion of a nasal fossa.
5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the composition is administered to the nasal passage in a manner to permit the composition to reach one or more nerves in the nasal passage or in the superior portion of the nasal fossa.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered to the human, wherein the human is in a recumbent position.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the human is in a recumbent position for 10-60 minutes during or after administration of the composition.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the source of the CNS inflammation is selected from the group consisting of Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease, neurotropic viral infections, stroke, paraneoplastic disorders, traumatic brain injury, and other CNS diseases that are associated with mast cell aggregation.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the X-ray contrast media comprises a concentration of 150 mg I/mL to 350 mg I/mL and wherein the composition is administered in an amount of 100 μL to 3,000 μL.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises one or more X-ray contrast media, each comprising a concentration of 150 mg I/mL to 350 mg I/mL and wherein the composition is administered in an amount of 800 μL to 1,600 μL.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered to said CNS tissue by injection.
12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is at least substantially free of a zinc chelator.
13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is free of Ca-EDTA, Na-EDTA or EDTA.
14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the X-ray contrast media comprises completely or partially substituted, benzene moieties.
15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the X-ray contrast media is selected from the group consisting of iopamidol, ioversol, iopromide, iohexyl, iothalamate (iothalamic acid), diatrizoate, ioxaglate (ioxaglic acid), iodipamide, iodixanol, iopanoic acid, sodium tyropanoate iotrolan. acetrizoate sodium, bunamidiodyl sodium, diatrizoate sodium, iobenzamic acid, iocarmic acid, iocetamic acid, iodamide, iodophthalein sodium, ioglycamic acid, iomeglamic acid, iopental, iophenoxic acid, ipronic acid, ioxilan, ipodate, meglumine acetrizoate, meglumine diatrizoate, metrizamide, metrizoic acid, phenobutiodil, phentetiothalein sodium, tyropanoate sodium, and combinations thereof.
16. The method of claim 9 , wherein the X-ray contrast media is iopamidol, ioversol, iopromide, iohexyl, iothalamate iothalamic acid, diatrizoate, ioxaglate or combinations thereof.
