at least one absorbent element configured to at least one of absorb and neutralize the spilled substance of the battery, said at least one absorbent element comprising a first surface opposite a second surface;

at least one screen over said first surface or below said second surface of the at least one absorbent element; and

at least one frame member at an outer edge of the absorbent element and a corresponding outer edge of the at least one screen, wherein said at least one frame member comprises a channel shape in cross-section comprising a first portion opposite a second portion and a third portion extending from the first portion to the second portion, wherein said at least one frame member first portion extends over said at least one screen and said at least one absorbent element first surface, wherein said frame member second portion extends below said at least one absorbent element second surface and said at least one screen, and wherein said at least one frame member retains said at least one absorbent member and said at least one screen together, wherein said cartridge has a unitary structure.

2. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 , wherein said at least one screen comprises two screens, wherein said at least one absorbent element is sandwiched between said two screens.

3. The cartridge as recited in claim 2 , wherein said screens provide rigidity to said at least one absorbent element.

4. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 , wherein said at least one screen provides rigidity to said at least one absorbent element.

5. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 , wherein said at least one absorbent element comprises polyvinyl chloride.

6. The cartridge as recited in claim 5 , wherein said at least one absorbent element is at least one of acid-resistant, flame-retardant, and electrically nonconductive.

7. The cartridge as recited in claim 5 , wherein said at least one absorbent element is acid-resistant, flame-retardant, and electrically nonconductive.

8. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 , wherein said at least one absorbent element is at least one of acid-resistant, flame-retardant, and electrically nonconductive.

9. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 , wherein said at least one absorbent element is acid-resistant, flame-retardant, and electrically nonconductive.

10. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 , wherein said at least one frame member circumscribes an entire perimeter of said at least one absorbent element.

11. The cartridge as recited in claim 10 , wherein said at least one frame member comprises four frame members.

12. The cartridge as recited in claim 1 , wherein said at least one frame member circumscribes an entire perimeter of said at least one absorbent element.

13. The cartridge as recited in claim 12 , wherein said at least one frame member comprises four frame members.
