Abstract

The present invention relates to a stent for the positioning and anchoring of a valvular prosthesis in an implantation site in the heart of a patient. Specifically, the present invention relates to an expandable stent for an endoprosthesis used in the treatment of a narrowing of a cardiac valve and/or a cardiac valve insufficiency. So as to ensure that no longitudinal displacement of a valvular prosthesis fastened to a stent will occur relative the stent in the implanted state of the stent, even given the peristaltic motion of the heart, the stent according to the invention comprises at least one fastening portion via which the valvular prosthesis is connectable to the stent. The stent further comprises positioning arches and retaining arches, whereby at least one positioning arch is connected to at least one retaining arch.

Claims (33)

1. An expandable stent, comprising:

a plurality of positioning arches configured to be positioned within a plurality of pockets of a native heart valve and positioned on a first side of a plurality of native heart valve leaflets;

a plurality of retaining arches configured to be positioned on a second side of the plurality of native heart valve leaflets opposite the first side; and

a plurality of radial arches, each radial arch substantially circumferentially aligned with a positioning arch of the plurality of positioning arches,

wherein each retaining arch of the plurality of retaining arches includes arms having a plurality of notches distributed along a length of each arm.

2. The expandable stent of claim 1 , wherein each arm includes a plurality of arm segments, the plurality of notches defining bending points between adjacent arm segments.

3. The expandable stent of claim 1 , wherein a valve prosthesis is connected to the plurality of retaining arches at one or more notches via a suture.

4. The expandable stent of claim 1 , wherein each positioning arch of the plurality of positioning arches includes a rounded head portion for engaging in a pocket of a native heart valve.

5. The expandable stent of claim 1 , wherein adjacent positioning arches join at an apex, the stent further comprising a strut connected at each apex.

6. The expandable stent of claim 5 , wherein the strut includes at least one hole.

7. The expandable stent of claim 6 , wherein the strut includes a rounded head portion located at a distalmost end of the stent.

8. The expandable stent of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of lattice cells between adjacent retaining arches.

9. The expandable stent of claim 1 , further comprising a supporting structure connected to the plurality of retaining arches, the supporting structure circumferentially disposed around a longitudinal axis of the stent.

10. The expandable stent of claim 9 , wherein the supporting structure is located at a proximalmost end of the stent.

11. The expandable stent of claim 9 , wherein the supporting structure includes a plurality of cells.

12. The expandable stent of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of cells includes exactly one row of cells.

13. The expandable stent of claim 11 , wherein each cell of the plurality of cells includes a notch.

14. The expandable stent of claim 13 , wherein a valve prosthesis is connected to the supporting structure at one or more notches of the plurality of cells via a suture.

15. The expandable stent of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of positioning arches includes only three positioning arches, the plurality of retaining arches includes only three retaining arches, and the plurality of radial arches includes only three radial arches.

16. An expandable stent, comprising:

a plurality of positioning arches configured to be positioned within a plurality of pockets of a native heart valve and positioned on a first side of a plurality of native heart valve leaflets;

a plurality of retaining arches configured to be positioned on a second side of the plurality of native heart valve leaflets opposite the first side, each retaining arch of the plurality of retaining arches including arms having a plurality of fastening portions distributed along a length of each arm;

a plurality of radial arches, each radial arch substantially circumferentially aligned with one of the plurality of positioning arches; and

a supporting structure connected to the plurality of retaining arches, the supporting structure including at least one row of cells circumferentially disposed around a longitudinal axis of the stent;

wherein a valve prosthesis is fixedly attached to the stent at the plurality of fastening portions.

17. The stent of claim 16 , wherein the valve prosthesis is fixedly attached to the supporting structure.

18. The stent of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of fastening portions are uniformly distributed along the length of each arm.

19. An expandable stent, comprising:

a plurality of positioning arches configured to be positioned within a plurality of pockets of a native heart valve and positioned on a first side of a plurality of native heart valve leaflets;

a plurality of retaining arches configured to be positioned on a second side of the plurality of native heart valve leaflets opposite the first side, each retaining arch of the plurality of retaining arches including arms having a plurality of notches distributed along a length of each arm and on opposite sides of each arm; and

a supporting structure connected to the plurality of retaining arches, the supporting structure including at least one row of cells circumferentially disposed around a longitudinal axis of the stent;

wherein each retaining arch corresponds to a complementary positioning arch to clip a native heart valve leaflet between the retaining arch and positioning arch.

20. The expandable stent of claim 19 , further comprising a plurality of radial arches, each radial arch substantially circumferentially aligned with a positioning arch of the plurality of positioning arches.
