Method of manufacturing directional backlight apparatus and directional structured optical film
Disclosed is a manufacturing method for a stepped imaging directional backlight apparatus which may include a structured optical film and a tapered body. The structured optical film may include multiple optical functions and may be assembled by folding onto the tapered body, reducing cost and complexity of manufacture.
1 . A method to form a stepped imaging directional illumination apparatus, comprising:
forming a structured optical film comprising:
a plurality of guiding features and a plurality of extraction features, wherein the extraction features and the guiding features are connected to and alternate with one another respectively;
at least one further optical element in alignment with the plurality of guiding features and plurality of extraction features; and
a common substrate;
aligning the common substrate with at least one side of an optical body comprising a taper; and
arranging the common substrate on the optical body.
2 . A method according to claim 1 where the structured optical film further comprises the step of forming at least one fold.
3 . A method according to claim 1 where the structured optical film further comprises the step of forming at least one metallised portion.
4 . A method according to claim 1 where the structured film further comprises the step of forming at least one light absorbing portion
5 . A method according to claim 1 where the structured film further comprises the step of forming at least one surface relief portion.
6 . A method according to claim 1 where the structured film comprises at least two of:
(i) A faceted light extraction structure
(ii) A mirror surface
(iii) A Fresnel structure
(iv) A holographic structure
(v) A mask pattern
(vi) A lens structure
(vii) A colour absorbing layer
(viii) A diffuser
