Abstract

Disclosed is a platform for real time management of vehicle data in an enterprise. The vehicle data may be evaluated by one or more rules. Based on outcomes of the evaluation of the rules, alerts may be provided to a user of the platform and/or to drivers (operators) of the vehicles. Further, the enterprise's backend systems may be invoked to initiate activity in the backend system depending on outcomes of evaluating the rules using the vehicle data. Backend activity may include initiating purchase orders, updating backend system databases, initiating workflows in the enterprise, and other business processes.

Claims (37)

1 . A computer-implemented method in an enterprise comprising:

receiving vehicle data from a plurality of vehicles that are being operated by drivers, wherein the vehicle data includes an indication of time, an identifier of a vehicle, an identification of a driver of the vehicle, current operating conditions of the vehicle, and current location information of the vehicle;

storing the vehicle data in a database;

evaluating first rules using the vehicle data and, based on outcomes of the evaluation, producing one or more alerts; and

evaluating second rules using the vehicle data and, based on outcomes of the evaluation, communicating with one or more backend systems of the enterprise to initiate one or more business activities in the one or more backend systems.

The method of claim 1 further comprising evaluating third rules using the vehicle data and, based on outcomes of the evaluation, producing one or more alerts and communicating with one or more backend systems of the enterprise to initiate one or more business activities in the one or more backend systems.

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein evaluating the first rules and/or evaluating the second rules are performed using the vehicle data in real time, as the vehicle data is being received.

4 . The method of claim 3 further comprising performing analytics on the vehicle data to generate computed vehicle data, wherein evaluating the first rules and/or evaluating the second rules include using the computed vehicle data.

5 . The method of claim 3 further comprising correlating the computed vehicle data with one or more drivers of the vehicle for which the computed vehicle data was generated.

6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the one or more business activities includes updating an employee database having stored therein employee data for the drivers of the vehicles.

7 . The method of claim 1 wherein the one or more business activities includes communicating with one or more suppliers to obtain parts or service for one or more vehicles.

8 . The method of claim 1 wherein some of the alerts are presented on a display device.

9 . The method of claim 1 wherein some of the alerts are sent to one or more of the drivers.

10 . A computer system in an enterprise comprising:

a vehicle communication module for wireless communication with a plurality of vehicles being operated by drivers, including receiving vehicle data from the plurality of vehicles;

a database system having stored therein the vehicle data received by the vehicle communication module;

a backend connector for communication with backend systems of the enterprise;

a computer processor; and

a memory having stored therein computer executable program code, which when executed by the computer processor, causes the computer processor to:

receive from the vehicle communication module vehicle data from a plurality of vehicles that are being operated by drivers, wherein the vehicle data includes an indication of time, an identifier of a vehicle, an identification of a driver of the vehicle, current operating conditions of the vehicle, and current location information of the vehicle;

store the vehicle data in the database system;

evaluate first rules using the vehicle data and, based on outcomes of the evaluation, producing one or more alerts; and

evaluate second rules using the vehicle data and, based on outcomes of the evaluation, communicating with one or more backend systems of the enterprise to initiate one or more business activities in the one or more backend systems.

The computer system of claim 10 wherein the computer executable program code, which when executed by the computer processor, further causes the computer processor to evaluate third rules using the vehicle data and, based on outcomes of the evaluation, producing one or more alerts and communicating with one or more backend systems of the enterprise to initiate one or more business activities in the one or more backend systems.

12 . The computer system of claim 10 wherein evaluation of the first rules and/or evaluation of the second rules are performed using the vehicle data in real time, as the vehicle data is being received.

13 . The computer system of claim 10 wherein the one or more business activities includes updating an employee database having stored therein employee data for the drivers of the vehicles.

14 . The computer system of claim 10 wherein the one or more business activities includes communicating with one or more suppliers to obtain parts or service for one or more vehicles.

15 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon computer executable program code, which when executed by a computer processor, causes the computer processor to:

receive vehicle data from a plurality of vehicles that are being operated by drivers, wherein the vehicle data includes an indication of time, an identifier of a vehicle, an identification of a driver of the vehicle, current operating conditions of the vehicle, and current location information of the vehicle;

store the vehicle data in a database;

evaluate first rules using the vehicle data and, based on outcomes of the evaluation, producing one or more alerts; and

evaluate second rules using the vehicle data and, based on outcomes of the evaluation, communicating with one or more backend systems of the enterprise to initiate one or more business activities in the one or more backend systems.

The-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 wherein the computer executable program code, which when executed by the computer processor, further causes the computer processor to evaluate third rules using the vehicle data and, based on outcomes of the evaluation, producing one or more alerts and communicating with one or more backend systems of the enterprise to initiate one or more business activities in the one or more backend systems.

17 . The-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 wherein evaluation of the first rules and/or evaluation of the second rules are performed using the vehicle data in real time, as the vehicle data is being received.

18 . The-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 wherein the one or more business activities includes updating an employee database having stored therein employee data for the drivers of the vehicles.

19 . The-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 wherein the one or more business activities includes communicating with one or more suppliers to obtain parts or service for one or more vehicles.

20 . The-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 wherein some of the alerts are presented on a display device and/or sent to one or more of the drivers.
