Abstract

A method comprises determining a person's level of risk for developing an adverse condition; selecting a care protocol based on the level of risk; displaying a proposed configuration of a person support structure corresponding to the care protocol for a caregiver to approve; and upon approval by the caregiver, implementing the configuration.

Claims (24)

1. A control system, comprising, at least one input device;

a processor configured to receive information from the at least one input device corresponding to at least-two each of:

an egress motivating condition which corresponds to at least one of regaining consciousness, agitation, time since last toileting, input/output balance, or lack of catheter;

an egress prerequisite condition which corresponds to at least one of a sleep state of a patient or a siderail position of a person support structure;

an egress preparation sequence which corresponds to at least one of patient movement, patient posture, patient location, or patient activity; and

a memory unit including instructions that, when acted upon by the processor, cause the processor to assign a numerical value to each of the egress motivating condition, the egress prerequisite condition, and the egress preparation sequence and to sum the numerical values to obtain a summed value which is compared to a predetermined threshold to determine when the person will likely egress from the person support structure and, if the person will likely egress from the person support structure, generate an alert.

2. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress motivating condition includes an is the amount of time since the person last toileted.

3. The control system of claim 2 , wherein the alert is generated if the amount of time is greater than 6 hours.

4. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the alert is generated if the person has an I/O balance of greater than 400 mL.

5. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress motivating condition includes movement of a person with respect to the person support structure increasing over a predetermined period of time.

6. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress preparation sequence includes information sensed by at least one of a pressure map, a force sensor, an image capture device, and a 3D image sensor.

7. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress preparation sequence includes information sensed by an array of sensors and the person support structure includes a mattress, wherein the array of sensors is coupled to the mattress.

8. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress prerequisite condition includes information indicative of a person's level of consciousness.

9. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress prerequisite condition includes information corresponding to a status of the person support structure.

10. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress prerequisite condition includes information corresponding to a status of a therapy.

11. The control system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the input signals corresponding to at least one of the egress prerequisite condition and the egress motivating condition is provided by an electronic medical record system.

12. The control system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the input signals corresponding to at least one of the egress prerequisite condition and the egress motivating condition is provided by a caregiver.

13. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the processor also receives information from the input device corresponding to a facility input, the instructions causing the processor to modify the alert as a function of the facility input.

14. The control system of claim 13 , wherein the facility input includes information corresponding to at least one of a facility protocol, facility logistics, the patient population, ease-mix, culture, facility patterns, risk tolerance, time of day, staffing levels, caregiver round times, and likelihood an alert will be responded to within a predetermined amount of time.

15. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the alert is communicated to a caregiver via a nurse call system.

16. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress prerequisite condition includes information corresponding to at least one of a physiological characteristics of a person supported on the person support structure, a location of a person supported on the person support structure, a center of gravity of a person supported on the person support structure, and a configuration of the person support structure.

17. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress motivating condition includes an unanswered nurse call.

18. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress motivating condition includes information corresponding to at least one of a medical procedure a person underwent recently and medication a person is currently taking.

19. The control system of claim 1 , wherein the egress prerequisite condition includes information corresponding to a fall risk analysis for a person.
