Abstract

Methods, formulations, and compositions for the treatment of amyloidosis are described.

Claims (49)

2 . A method of stabilizing or improving renal and/or gastrointestinal function in a subject in need thereof, said method comprising:

administering to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of:

1,2-ethanedisulfonic acid,

sodium 1,2-ethanedisulfonate,

1.2-ethanediol bis(hydrogen sulfate),

1,2-ethanediol disulfate, disodium salt,

1,3-propanedisulfonic acid,

sodium 1,3-propanedisulfonate (1,3-propanedisulfonic acid, disodium salt),

1,3-propanediol bis(hydrogen sulfate),

1,3-propanediol disulfate, disodium salt,

2-sulfomethyl-1,4-butanedisulfonic acid, and

2-sulfomethylbutane-1,4-disulfonic acid, trisodium salt.

3 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is 1,2-ethanedisulfonic acid.

4 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is sodium 1,2-ethanedisulfonate.

5 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is 1,2-ethanediol bis(hydrogen sulfate).

6 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is 1,2-ethanediol disulfate, disodium salt.

7 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is 1,3-propanedisulfonic acid.

8 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is sodium 1,3-propanedisulfonate (1,3-propanedisulfonic acid, disodium salt).

9 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is 1,3-propanediol bis(hydrogen sulfate).

10 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is 1,3-propanediol disulfate, disodium salt.

11 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is 2-sulfomethyl-1,4-butanedisulfonic acid.

12 . The method of claim 2 wherein said compound is 2-sulfomethylbutane-1,4-disulfonic acid, trisodium salt.

13 . A method of treating a malignant neoplasm in a subject in need thereof, said method comprising:

administering to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of:

1,2-ethanedisulfonic acid,

sodium 1,2-ethanedisulfonate,

1,2-ethanediol bis(hydrogen sulfate),

1,2-ethanediol disulfate, disodium salt,

1,3-propanedisulfonic acid,

sodium 1,3-propanedisulfonate (1,3-propanedisulfonic acid, disodium salt),

1,3-propanediol bis(hydrogen sulfate),

1,3-propanediol disulfate, disodium salt,

2-sulfomethyl-1,4-butanedisulfonic acid, and

2-sulfomethylbutane-1,4-disulfonic acid, trisodium salt,

in combination with a second agent such that the malignant neoplasm is treated in said subject.

14 . A method of treating a chronic infection in a subject in need thereof, said method comprising:

administering to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of:

1,2-ethanedisulfonic acid,

sodium 1,2-ethanedisulfonate,

1,2-ethanediol bis(hydrogen sulfate),

1,2-ethanediol disulfate, disodium salt,

1,3-propanedisulfonic acid,

sodium 1,3-propanedisulfonate (1,3-propanedisulfonic acid, disodium salt),

1,3-propanediol bis(hydrogen sulfate),

1,3-propanediol disulfate, disodium salt,

2-sulfomethyl-1,4-butanedisulfonic acid, and

2-sulfomethylbutane-1,4-disulfonic acid, trisodium salt,

in combination with a second agent such that the chronic infection is treated in said subject.
