Claims (6)

.- 12 . (canceled)

. A method for relieving pain comprising topically applying a compound to keratinized skin comprising a strontium cation, a counterion, and a delivery vehicle.

. The method of claim 13 , wherein the delivery vehicle is selected from the group consisting of: water, organic solvents, lipid-based materials, protein-based materials, silicone-based materials, hydrocarbon-based materials, surfactants, soaps, sustained-release vehicles, stabilizing and suspending agents, emulsifying agents and mixtures of the foregoing.

. The method of claim 13 , wherein the couterion is selected from the group consisting of: fluoride, chloride, bromide, idodine, carbonate, bicarbonate, hydroxide, oxide, peroxide, nitrite, sulfide, bisulfate, persulfate, glycerophosphate, hypophosphate, borate, titanate, carboxylic acid, alkoxylate, citrate, oxalate, acetate, fluconate, lactate, tartrate, maleate, benzoate, propionate, salicylate, ascorbate, formate, succinate, folinate, aspartate, phthalate, oleate, palmitate, stearate, lauryl sulfate, lanolate, myrisatte, behenate, casinate, cyclamate, pantothenate, EDTA, saccharin, thioglycolate, alurate, methylparaben, proylparaben, ricinoleate, and sorbate.

. The method of claim 13 , wherein the compound further comprises a solvent.

. The method of claim 13 , wherein the compound further comprises a skin penetration enhancer.
