Abstract

Systems and methods of various embodiments may enable or refine translation of text between a first language and a second language. In particular, systems and methods may enable or refine a text translation by soliciting and/or receiving feedback for: translation of a first word or phrase from a first language to a second language; transformation of the first word or phrase (in the first language) to a second word or phrase in the first language; or transformation of the first word or phrase (in the first language) to a second word or phrase in the second language. The systems and methods of various embodiments may incentivize user feedback for failed translations in order to encourage user feedback, improve the quality of user feedback received, and to permit development of translation corpora that can evolve with time.

Claims (29)

1. A system comprising:

means for selecting, from a data store, a word or phrase associated with a failure to translate a message from a first language to a second language;

means for selecting a person from whom to solicit user feedback for the translation failure;

means for generating a query to request user feedback from the person;

means for offering an incentive to the person;

means for receiving the user feedback, the user feedback potentially assisting to translate the word or phrase; and

means for rewarding the person with the incentive wherein the incentive is determined based on a complexity of the word or phrase or an importance of the word or phrase.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the failure is due to an actual failure to translate the message.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the failure is due to a user flagging the message as potentially incorrect.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the person is selected based on a confidence measure of the person, a quota associated with the person, an incentive previously rewarded, a preference of the person, or a language ability of the person.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the user feedback comprises a definition for the word or phrase in the first language.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the user feedback comprises a definition for the word or phrase in the second language.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the word or phrase comprises chatspeak in the first language.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the user feedback comprises chatspeak in the second language.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the query comprises a field configured to receive a text-based value.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the query comprises a set of preselected definitions from which the person can choose a definition for the word or phrase.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the set of preselected definitions comprises at least one definition provided by another person in response to another query, the other query being previously generated to obtain previous user feedback for the word or phrase from the other person.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the other query comprised another set of preselected definitions from which the other person chose the definition.

13. The system of claim 11 , further comprising means for determining a most popular preselected definition from the set of preselected definitions.

14. The system of claim 1 , further comprising means for evaluating the competency of the person based on an accuracy of the user feedback.

15. The system of claim 1 , further comprising means for updating a transformation or translation of the word or phrase from the first language to the second language.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the transformation or translation is updated once the failure is determined to be resolved.

17. The system of claim 1 , wherein the incentive is rewarded only if the user feedback is approved.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the rewarding occurs after the user feedback is determined not to be fraudulent.

19. The system of claim 17 , wherein the user feedback is approved based on previous user feedback provided by another person in response to another query, the other query being previously generated to obtain feedback for the word or phrase from the other person.

20. The system of claim 17 , wherein the user feedback is approved once the user feedback is accepted as accurately defining the word or phrase.

21. The system of claim 1 , wherein the incentive includes in-game currency or an ingame item.

22. The system of claim 1 , further comprising means for preventing the word or phrase from being subsequently selected for additional user feedback for the failure.

23. The system of claim 22 , further comprising means for removing the word or phrase from the data store.
