Method and system for treatment of biological tissue
View Patent ↗A composition for reconstruction, replacement or repair of damaged or diseased biological tissue comprising an extracellular matrix (ECM) composition that includes an ECM scaffold component and a bioactive agent component. In a preferred embodiment, the ECM scaffold component comprises mesothelial tissue and the bioactive agent comprises a statin.
1. A composition for treating damaged biological tissue, comprising:
an extracellular matrix (ECM) composition comprising a bioremodelable component comprising acellular mesothelial tissue, said mesothelial tissue further comprising an exogenously added statin, said statin being linked to said mesothelial tissue, wherein, when said ECM composition is administered to damaged biological tissue, said statin interacts with said mesothelial tissue, wherein said ECM composition modulates inflammation of said damaged biological tissue and induces bioremodeling and regeneration of new biological tissue.
2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said ECM composition further comprises a fluidizing component selected from the group consisting of water and saline.
3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said statin is selected from the group consisting of atorvastatin, cerivastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, mevastatin, pitavastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin and simvastatin.
4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein, when said ECM composition is administered to damaged cardiovascular tissue, said statin interacts with said mesothelial tissue, wherein myofibroblast and stem cell migration is induced, differentiation of said stem cells into cardiomyocytes is induced, RhoA activation is restricted and matrix metalloprotinase (MMP) production is reduced in said cardiovascular tissue, wherein said ECM composition induces neovascularization and bioremodeling of said cardiovascular tissue.
