Abstract

A system and method for video processing is provided. The system and method process a video stream having a first resolution video frame, the first resolution video frame comprising a plurality of second resolution video frames. The second resolution video frames may be used to generate a second video stream.

Claims (29)

1. A method for video processing, the method comprising:

receiving a first video stream comprising first resolution video frames, at least one of the first resolution video frames being defined to comprise a plurality of second resolution video frames; and

generating a second video stream based on the second resolution video frames of the first resolution video frames.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first resolution video frame has a first frame rate and the plurality of second resolution video frames have a second frame rate.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the second frame rate is higher than the first frame rate.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first and second resolution are a bit depth.

5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein the plurality of second resolution video frames comprise a first frame comprising the most significant bits of the bit depth and a second frame comprising the least significant bits of the bit depth.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first resolution has a higher resolution than the second resolution.

7. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising receiving the first resolution frame in a video codec.

8. The method according to claim 7 , further comprising cropping the plurality of second resolution video frames from the first resolution video frame.

9. The method according to claim 8 , further comprising generating a second resolution video stream from the second resolution video frames.

10. An apparatus for processing video data comprising lower resolution video data embedded in high resolution video data, the apparatus comprising:

a memory unit;

a processor operably coupled to the memory unit, the processor comprising at least one module configured to:

buffer a higher resolution video frame in the memory unit; crop a plurality of lower resolution video frames from the higher resolution video frame;

render the plurality of lower resolution video frames to generate a lower resolution video stream.

11. The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the higher resolution video frame comprises four lower resolution video frames.

12. The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the plurality of lower resolution video frames comprises a plurality of camera angles of a video broadcast.

13. The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein each frame of the plurality of low definition video frames comprises a different program.

14. The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the plurality of low definition video frames comprises a plurality of video streams and at least one video stream of the plurality of video streams comprises targeted marketing content for a specific user.

15. A system for processing video data, the system comprising:

a memory unit;

a frame processing unit operably coupled to the memory unit, the frame processing unit being configured to retrieve a plurality of lower resolution video frames, extract the lower resolution video frames from a higher resolution video frame, and store the higher resolution video frame in the memory unit;

a decoder operably coupled to the memory unit, the decoder comprising at least one module configured to decode the higher resolution video frame prior to extracting the lower resolution video frames from the higher resolution video frame.

16. The system according to claim 15 , wherein the higher resolution video frame defines a lower frame rate than the lower resolution video frames.

17. The system according to claim 15 , wherein each frame of the plurality of lower resolution video frames is located in a region of the higher resolution video frame.

18. The system according to claim 15 , wherein each frame of the plurality of lower resolution video frames comprises a component frame of a three-dimensional video frame.

19. The system according to claim 18 , wherein at least one frame of the plurality of lower resolution video frames comprises two-dimensional video content.

20. The system according to claim 18 , wherein at least one corresponding frame of the plurality of lower resolution video frames comprises three-dimensional depth layer content.
