Abstract

A physiological sensor has light sources arranged in one or more rows and one or more columns. Each light source is activated by addressing at least one row and at least one column. The light sources are capable of transmitting light of multiple wavelengths and a detector is responsive to the transmitted light after attenuation by body tissue.

Claims (31)

1. A physiological sensor comprising:

a plurality of light emitters comprising at least a first light emitter and a second light emitter;

an electrical grid configured to activate one or more light emitters of the plurality of light emitters by addressing at least one row conductor and at least one column conductor, wherein each of the one or more light emitters comprises a first terminal and a second terminal;

a first contact communicatively coupled with the first terminal of the first light emitter, the second terminal of the second light emitter, a first row conductor, and a first column conductor; and

a second contact communicatively coupled with the second terminal of the first light emitter, the first terminal of the second light emitter, a second row conductor, and a second column conductor.

2. The physiological sensor of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of light emitters are arranged in one or more rows and one or more columns.

3. The physiological sensor of claim 1 , wherein the first light emitter and the second light emitter are light emitting diodes.

4. The physiological sensor of claim 1 , further comprising an information element disposed between the first contact and the second contact.

5. The physiological sensor of claim 4 , wherein the information element is adapted to provide information in response to at least one of a DC electrical drive and an AC electrical drive.

6. The physiological sensor of claim 4 , wherein the information element comprises at least one of a passive information element, and active information element, and a memory information element.

7. A physiological sensor comprising:

a plurality of light sources arranged in one or more rows and one or more columns, the plurality of light sources comprising at least a first light source and a second light source, wherein one or more light sources of the plurality of light sources are activated by addressing at least one row conductor and at least one column conductor, wherein each of the one or more light sources comprises a first contact and a second contact;

a first electrical node communicatively coupled with the first contact of the first light source, the second contact of the second light source, a first row conductor, and a first column conductor; and

a second electrical node communicatively coupled with the second contact of the first light source, the first contact of the second light source, a second row conductor, and a second column conductor.

8. The physiological sensor of claim 7 , further comprising an information element disposed between the first electrical node and the second electrical node.

9. The physiological sensor of claim 8 , wherein the information element is adapted to provide information in response to a DC electrical drive.

10. The physiological sensor of claim 8 , wherein the information element is adapted to provide information in response to an AC electrical drive.

11. The physiological sensor of claim 8 , wherein the information element is adapted to provide information in response to a combination of an AC electrical drive and a DC electrical drive.

12. The physiological sensor of claim 8 , wherein the information element comprises a passive information element.

13. The physiological sensor of claim 8 , wherein the information element comprises an active information element.

14. The physiological sensor of claim 8 , wherein the information element comprises a memory information element.

15. The physiological sensor of claim 7 , wherein the first light source and the second light source are light emitting diodes.

16. The physiological sensor of claim 7 , wherein the first light source and the second light source are back-to-back configured light emitting diodes.

17. A method, comprising:

providing a plurality of light sources in one or more rows and one or more columns, the plurality of light sources comprising at least a first light source and a second light source, wherein one or more light sources of the plurality of light sources are activated by addressing at least one row conductor and at least one column conductor, wherein each of the one or more light sources comprises a first contact and a second contact;

providing a first electrical node communicatively coupled with the first contact of the first light source, the second contact of the second light source, a first row conductor, and a first column conductor;

providing a second electrical node communicatively coupled with the second contact of the first light source, the first contact of the second light source, a second row conductor, and a second column conductor;

activating the first light source by addressing a first row drive line communicatively coupled to the first row conductor, and a second column drive line communicatively coupled to the second column conductor; and

activating the second light source by addressing a second row drive line communicatively coupled to the second row conductor, and a first column drive line communicatively coupled to the first column conductor.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the first light source and the second light source are back-to-back configured light emitting diodes.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein the combining comprises connecting at least some of the row and column drive lines in the physiological sensor having back-to-back configured light emitting diodes.
