Abstract

RF front-end circuitry arranged to provide for RF Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MIMO) signals is disclosed. In one embodiment, the RF front-end circuitry may include an antenna port, a first multiple throw (MT) switch, and a second MT switch. The first MT switch is configured to selectively couple a first pole port to any one of a first set of throw ports, and the second MT switch is configured to selectively couple a second pole port to any one of a second set of throw ports. The first pole port of the first MT switch is coupled to the antenna port. More than one of the second set of throw ports of the second MT switch are coupled to transmit one or more receive MIMO signals to RF transceiver circuitry. Accordingly, the RF front-end circuitry routes receive MIMO signals from the antenna port to the RF transceiver circuitry.

Claims (31)

1. A radio frequency (RF) front-end circuitry comprising:

a first antenna port coupled to a first antenna;

a second antenna port coupled to a second antenna;

a third antenna port coupled to a third antenna;

a first multiple throw (MT) solid-state transistor switch (MTSTS) having a first set of throw ports and at least one first pole port configured to be coupled to at least one of the first antenna port and the second antenna port, wherein the first MTSTS is configured to selectively couple the at least one first pole port to at least one of the first set of throw ports;

a first MT microelectromechanical switch (MTMEMS) having a second set of throw ports and a second pole port, wherein:

the second pole port is coupled to a first selected throw port in the first set of throw ports of the first MTSTS;

the first MTMEMS is configured to selectively couple the second pole port to any one of the second set of throw ports;

a second MTMEMS comprising a third pole port, a third set of throw ports, a fourth pole port, and a fourth set of throw ports, wherein:

the third pole port is coupled to a second selected throw port in the first set of throw ports of the first MTSTS;

the fourth pole port is coupled to the third antenna port;

the third set of throw ports is coupled to a subset of the fourth set of throw ports;

the second MTMEMS is configured to selectively couple the third pole port to any one of the third set of throw ports and selectively couple the fourth pole port to any one of the fourth set of throw ports.

2. The RF front-end circuitry of claim 1 wherein a coupling between the second pole port and any one of the second set of throw ports, a coupling between the third port and any one of the third set of throw ports, and a coupling between the fourth pole port and any one of the fourth set of throw ports are maintained when the first MTSTS selectively couples the at least one first pole port to the at least one of the first set of throw ports.

3. The RF front-end circuitry of claim 1 wherein in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) operation mode:

the first MTSTS is configured to selectively couple the at least one first pole port to the at least one of the first set of throw ports;

the first MTMEMS is configured to couple the second pole port to the first selected throw port in the first set of throw ports of the first MTSTS to receive a secondary receive MIMO signal; and

the second MTMEMS is configured to:

couple the third pole port to the second selected throw port in the first set of throw ports of the first MTSTS to receive the secondary receive MIMO signal;

selectively couple the third pole port to any one of the third set of throw ports;

couple the fourth pole port to the third antenna port to receive a primary receive MIMO signal; and

selectively couple the fourth pole port to any one of the fourth set of throw ports not coupled to the third set of throw ports.

4. The RF front-end circuitry of claim 3 further comprising control circuitry configured to:

control the first MTSTS to selectively couple the at least one first pole port to the at least one of the first set of throw ports;

control the first MTMEMS to couple the second pole port to the first selected throw port in the first set of throw ports of the first MTSTS to receive the secondary receive MIMO signal; and

couple the third pole port to the second selected throw port in the first set of throw ports of the first MTSTS to receive the secondary receive MIMO signal;

selectively couple the third pole port to any one of the third set of throw ports;

couple the fourth pole port to the third antenna port to receive the primary receive MIMO signal; and

selectively couple the fourth pole port to any one of the fourth set of throw ports not coupled to the third set of throw ports.

5. The RF front-end circuitry of claim 3 further comprising RF transceiver circuitry coupled to the first MTMEMS and the second MTMEMS, the RF transceiver circuitry comprising a primary receive port configured to receive the primary receive MIMO signal, a first secondary receive port configured to receive the secondary receive MIMO signal, and a second secondary receive port configured to receive the secondary receive MIMO signal separately.
