Abstract

Contextual content is provided to a first conversation participant via a client device of the first conversation participant. Communication information associated with a conversation is received via the first client device interface. Context information associated with the conversation is retrieved from the received communication information. One or more concepts associated with the conversation are identified based on the context information. Content is selected for presenting on the client device based on the identified concepts. The selected content is then presented to the first conversation participant in a second client device interface.

Claims (58)

1. A method for presenting contextual content on a client device of a first conversation participant, comprising:

receiving, at a first client device interface, communication information associated with a conversation between the first conversation participant and one or more other conversation participants;

retrieving context information from the communication information, the context information comprising information associated with the conversation;

identifying one or more concepts associated with the conversation based on the context information;

selecting public content for presenting on the client device from a plurality of public sources based on the identified one or more concepts, the public content presented to all of the conversation participants;

selecting private content for presenting on the client device from a plurality of private sources accessible only to the first conversation participant based on the identified one or more concepts, the private content presented only to the first conversation participant; and

simultaneously presenting the selected public content in a first portion of a second client device interface dedicated to displaying only public content and presenting the selected private content in a second portion of the second client device interface dedicated to displaying only private content.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the received communication information comprises one or more of real-time audio communication information, real-time text communication information, and real-time video communication information, and wherein retrieving context information from the received communication information comprises retrieving text representative of the received communication information.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the received communication information comprises content shared by one or more conversation participants, and wherein retrieving context information from the received communication information comprises retrieving properties of the shared content.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

presenting content associated with the identified one or more concepts in a third client device interface;

receiving one or more additional concepts via the third client device interface; and

selecting additional content for presenting based on the received additional concepts.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein presenting the selected public content or the selected private content comprises:

presenting a plurality of selectable content cards;

wherein, in response to being selected, a content card is configured to present additional information associated with the content represented by the content card.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein presenting the private content in the second portion of the second client device interface comprises visually distinguishing the private content from the public content.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the plurality of private sources comprises one or more of: the first conversation participant's private documents, the first conversation participant's email accounts, and the first conversation participant's social networking accounts.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selected private content comprises private content unique to each conversation participant.

9. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing executable computer program instructions for displaying contextual content on a client device of a first conversation participant, the instructions performing steps comprising:

receiving, at a first client device interface, communication information associated with a conversation between the first conversation participant and one or more other conversation participants;

retrieving context information from the communication information, the context information comprising information associated with the conversation;

identifying one or more concepts associated with the conversation based on the context information;

selecting public content for presenting on the client device from a plurality of public sources based on the identified one or more concepts, the public content presented to all of the conversation participants;

selecting private content for presenting on the client device from a plurality of private sources accessible only to the first conversation participant based on the identified one or more concepts, the private content presented only to the first conversation participant; and

simultaneously presenting the selected public content in a first portion of a second client device interface dedicated to displaying only public content and presenting the selected private content in a second portion of the second client device interface dedicated to displaying only private content.

10. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the received communication information comprises one or more of real-time audio communication information, real-time text communication information, and real-time video communication information, and wherein retrieving context information from the received communication information comprises retrieving text representative of the received communication information.

11. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the received communication information comprises content shared by one or more conversation participants, and wherein retrieving context information from the received communication information comprises retrieving properties of the shared content.

12. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , the instructions performing steps further comprising:

presenting content associated with the identified one or more concepts in a third client device interface;

receiving one or more additional concepts via the third client device interface; and

selecting additional content for presenting based on the received additional concepts.

13. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein presenting the selected public content or the selected private content comprises:

presenting a plurality of selectable content cards;

wherein, in response to being selected, a content card is configured to present additional information associated with the content represented by the content card.

14. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein one or more of the plurality of private sources comprises one or more of: the first conversation participant's private documents, the first conversation participant's email accounts, and the first conversation participant's social networking accounts.

15. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the selected private content comprises private content unique to each conversation participant.

16. A computer system for presenting contextual content to a first conversation participant, comprising:

a non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing executable computer program instructions comprising instructions for:

receiving, at a first interface, communication information associated with a conversation between the first conversation participant and one or more other conversation participants;

retrieving context information from the communication information, the context information comprising information associated with the conversation;

identifying one or more concepts associated with the conversation based on the context information;

selecting public content for presenting on the client device from a plurality of public sources based on the identified one or more concepts, the public content presented to all of the conversation participants;

selecting private content for presenting on the client device from a plurality of private sources accessible only to the first conversation participant based on the identified one or more concepts, the private content presented only to the first conversation participant;

simultaneously presenting the selected public content in a first portion of a second interface dedicated to displaying only public content and presenting the selected private content in a second portion of the second interface dedicated to displaying only private content; and

a processor for executing the computer program instructions.

17. The computer system of claim 16 , wherein the received communication information comprises one or more of real-time audio communication information, real-time text communication information, and real-time video communication information, and wherein retrieving context information from the received communication information comprises retrieving text representative of the received communication information.

18. The computer system of claim 16 , wherein the received communication information comprises content shared by one or more conversation participants, and wherein retrieving context information from the received communication information comprises retrieving properties of the shared content.

19. The computer system of claim 16 , the instructions further comprising instructions for:

presenting content associated with the identified one or more concepts in a third interface;

receiving one or more additional concepts via the third interface; and

selecting additional content for presenting based on the received additional concepts.
