Gentle to skin adhesive
View Patent ↗Electron beam and gamma radiation crosslinked, silicone gel adhesives are described. Both nonfunctional and functional poly diorganosiloxanes are used. Methods of forming the adhesives, and medical articles incorporating such adhesives are also described.
1. An adhesive comprising a radiation cured silicone gel, wherein the adhesive is prepared without a catalyst, wherein the silicone gel comprises a crosslinked poly diorganosiloxane material and a noncrosslinked poly diorganosiloxane fluid, wherein the poly diorganosiloxane material consists of one or more non-functional poly diorganosiloxanes, and wherein the adhesive further comprises a silicate resin tackifier.
2. The adhesive of claim 1 , wherein the crosslinked poly diorganosiloxane material consists of a crosslinked poly dimethylsiloxane material and the noncrosslinked poly diorganosiloxane fluid consists of a noncrosslinked poly dimethylsiloxane fluid.
3. The adhesive of claim 1 , wherein the one or more non-functional poly diorganosiloxanes consist of one or more non-functional poly dimethylsiloxanes.
4. The adhesive of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive has a 180 degree peel adhesion from human skin of no greater than 200 grams per 2.54 centimeters as measured according to the Skin Peel Adhesion Procedure.
5. A medical article comprising a layer of the adhesive according to claim 1 adhered to a medical substrate.
6. The article of claim 5 , wherein the layer has a thickness of 51 to 200 microns.
7. The adhesive of claim 1 , wherein the silicate resin tackifier is present in an amount of no more than 35 parts by weight.
8. The article of claim 7 , wherein the layer has a thickness of 51 to 200 microns.
9. The adhesive of claim 1 , wherein the silicate resin tackifier is present in an amount of less than 45 parts per hundred.
10. An adhesive comprising a radiation cured silicone gel, wherein the adhesive is prepared without a catalyst, wherein the silicone gel comprises a crosslinked poly diorganosiloxane material and a noncrosslinked poly diorganosiloxane fluid, wherein the poly diorganosiloxane material consists of one or more non-functional poly diorganosiloxanes, and wherein the adhesive comprises a poly(dimethylsiloxane-oxamide) linear copolymer.
11. An adhesive formed by exposing a composition comprising a poly diorganosiloxane material to at least one of electron beam irradiation and gamma irradiation at a sufficient dose to crosslink the poly diorganosiloxane material and form a radiation cured silicone gel, wherein the silicone gel comprises a crosslinked poly diorganosiloxane material and a noncrosslinked poly diorganosiloxane fluid, wherein the adhesive is prepared without a catalyst, wherein the poly diorganosiloxane material consists of one or more non-functional poly diorganosiloxanes, and wherein the adhesive further comprises a silicate resin tackifier.
12. The adhesive of claim 11 , wherein the crosslinked poly diorganosiloxane material consists of a crosslinked poly dimethylsiloxane material and the noncrosslinked poly diorganosiloxane fluid consists of a noncrosslinked poly dimethylsiloxane fluid.
13. The adhesive of claim 11 , wherein the silicate resin tackifier is present in an amount of no more than 35 parts by weight.
14. A medical article comprising a layer of the adhesive according to claim 11 adhered to a medical substrate.
15. The adhesive of claim 11 , wherein the silicate resin tackifier is present in an amount of less than 45 parts per hundred.
16. An adhesive formed by exposing a composition comprising a poly diorganosiloxane material to at least one of electron beam irradiation and gamma irradiation at a sufficient dose to crosslink the poly diorganosiloxane material and form a radiation cured silicone gel, wherein the silicone gel comprises a crosslinked poly diorganosiloxane material and a noncrosslinked poly diorganosiloxane fluid, wherein the adhesive is prepared without a catalyst, and wherein the adhesive further comprises a poly(dimethylsiloxane-oxamide) linear copolymer.
17. An adhesive comprising a radiation cured silicone gel, wherein the adhesive is prepared without a catalyst, wherein the silicone gel comprises a crosslinked poly diorganosiloxane material and a noncrosslinked poly diorganosiloxane fluid, wherein the adhesive further comprises a hydrophilic polymer.
18. A method of adhering a medical article to a biological substrate, the method comprising:
providing a poly diorganosiloxane material consisting of one or more non-functional poly diorganosiloxanes;
radiation curing the poly diorganosiloxane material without a catalyst to form an adhesive comprising a radiation cured silicone gel, wherein the silicone gel comprises a crosslinked poly diorganosiloxane material and a noncrosslinked poly diorganosiloxane fluid;
adhering the adhesive to a medical substrate to form a medical article; and
adhering the medical article to a biological substrate.
19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the biological substrate is human skin.
20. A method of adhering a medical article to a biological substrate, the method comprising:
providing a poly dimethylsiloxane material consisting of one or more non-functional poly dimethylsiloxanes;
radiation curing the poly dimethylsiloxane material without a catalyst to form an adhesive comprising a radiation cured silicone gel, wherein the silicone gel comprises a crosslinked poly dimethylsiloxane material and a noncrosslinked poly dimethylsiloxane fluid;
adhering the adhesive to a medical substrate to form a medical article; and
adhering the medical article to a biological substrate.
21. The method of claim 18 , wherein the biological substrate is human skin.
