Abstract

Provided is a process for the formation of 2-nitropropane and/or 2,2-dinitropropane by the nitration of propane with dilute nitric acid.

Claims (4)

12 . An oil-based product stream directly obtained from a propane nitration reaction, comprising: 2-nitropropane; nitromethane; nitroethane; 1-nitropropane; and 2,2-dinitropropane, wherein the weight ratio of 2-nitropropane to 2,2-dinitropropane is at least about 15:1.

13 . A product stream according to claim 12 wherein the weight ratio of 2-nitropropane to 2,2-dinitropropane in the product stream is at least about 30:1.
