Abstract

A computer implemented method and system provide for automatic selection and extraction of metadata and media content from projects in a craft tool. Automated identification, classification and management of such metadata and content is provided using including techniques such as pattern recognition for audio and visual content. The automatic tracking and centralized storage of metadata and content for compliance purposes can be facilitated, and can enable querying of organized metadata stored in a central database. In an example, metadata and media content are extracted automatically from a project in a craft tool at a client system and are forwarded to a host system for the creation of a cue sheet including timings for media files from timing metadata in a project file to create the timings on the cue sheet.

Claims (27)

1. A computer-implemented method of analyzing a media project defined by a craft tool, the method comprising:

receiving a first file for the media project defined by the craft tool, wherein the craft tool is a computer-implemented tool for audio and/or visual editing, the media project includes a plurality of media items in at least one of a plurality of tracks and project bins, and the first file comprises at least one item of media content extracted from media items of the media project and metadata for the media project;

extracting selected metadata from the first file and generating a second file containing the selected metadata, wherein the selected metadata comprises metadata for reporting to at least one agency system for rights holders, the selected metadata including metadata identifying a rights holder of media content in the first file; and

outputting the second file.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the media items include at least one of audio, text, image and video.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selected metadata includes timings for media items selected from timing metadata in a project file.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second file comprises a cue sheet.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second file is generated using a markup language.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein outputting the second file comprises transmitting the second file to at least a second computer system.

7. The method of clam 6 , wherein outputting the second file comprises encrypting the second file prior to transmission to the second computer system.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein outputting the second file includes outputting the second file to an agency system comprising one or more computer servers.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the agency system is operated by a performing rights society.

10. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising program code that, when executed by a computing system, causes the computing system to carry out operations comprising:

receiving a first file for a media project defined by a craft tool, wherein the craft tool is a computer-implemented tool for audio and/or visual editing, the media project includes a plurality of media items in at least one of a plurality of tracks and project bins, and the first file comprises at least one item of media content extracted from media items of the media project and metadata for the media project;

extracting selected metadata from the first file and generating a second file containing the selected metadata, wherein the selected metadata comprises metadata for reporting to at least one agency system for rights holders, the selected metadata including metadata identifying a rights holder of media content in the first file; and

outputting the second file.

11. A system comprising at least a first computer system, the at least a first computer system comprising a processor and storage, the at least a first computer system configured, for analyzing a media project defined by a craft tool, to:

receive a first file for the media project defined by the craft tool, wherein the craft tool is a computer-implemented tool for audio and/or visual editing, the media project includes a plurality of media items in at least one of a plurality of tracks and project bins, and the first file comprises media content extracted from media items of the media project and metadata for the media project;

extract selected metadata from the first file and generate a second file containing the selected metadata, wherein the selected metadata comprises metadata for reporting to a performing rights society, the selected metadata including metadata identifying a rights holder of media content in the first file; and

output the second file.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the media items include at least one of audio, text, image and video.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the selected metadata includes timings for media items selected from timing metadata in the first file.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the second file comprises a cue sheet.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the second file is generated using a markup language.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein outputting the second file comprises transmitting the second file to at least a second computer system.

17. The system of clam 16 , wherein outputting the second file comprises encrypting the second file prior to transmission to the second computer system.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein outputting the second file includes outputting the second file to an agency system comprising one or more computer servers.
