Abstract

An LED lighting device includes a step-up chopper circuit for increasing an input voltage to a prescribed DC voltage, a voltage detection circuit for detecting the DC voltage, a step-down chopper circuit for decreasing the DC voltage to apply it across a light source, a step-down chopper controlling circuit for turning on and off a switching device of the step-down chopper circuit when the DC voltage is a threshold voltage or more, and an inrush current preventing circuit having a parallel circuit of a thyristor and a thermistor. When the DC voltage is less than the threshold voltage, only the induced voltage obtained from the step-up chopper circuit is employed as a drive power supply for the thyristor. When the DC voltage is the threshold voltage or more, only the induced voltage obtained from the step-down chopper circuit is employed as the drive power supply.

Claims (11)

1. An LED lighting device comprising:

a step-up chopper circuit that comprises a first switching device and a first primary winding and is configured to step up an input voltage to a prescribed DC voltage in response to a turning on and off of the first switching device;

a step-up chopper controlling circuit configured to control the turning on and off of the first switching device;

a voltage detection circuit configured to detect an output voltage of the step-up chopper circuit;

a step-down chopper circuit that comprises a second switching device and a second primary winding and is configured, in response to a turning on and off of the second switching device, to step down the output voltage of the step-up chopper circuit and to apply the stepped down voltage across a light source comprised of one or more light emitting devices;

a step-down chopper controlling circuit configured: to keep an OFF state of the second switching device when a detection result of the voltage detection circuit is less than a threshold; and to control the turning on and off of the second switching device when the detection result of the voltage detection circuit is equal to or larger than the threshold; and

an inrush current preventing circuit that comprises a third switching device and a current-limiting element connected in parallel with the third switching device and is provided on an input current path of the step-up chopper circuit, said third switching device employing, as a drive power supply thereof, voltages induced across a first secondary winding magnetically coupled to the first primary winding and across a second secondary winding magnetically coupled to the second primary winding;

wherein the inrush current preventing circuit further comprises a drive power switch configured: to employ only the voltage induced across the first secondary winding as the drive power supply of the third switching device when the detection result of the voltage detection circuit is less than the threshold; and also to employ only the voltage induced across the second secondary winding as the drive power supply of the third switching device when at least the detection result of the voltage detection circuit is equal to or larger than the threshold.

2. An LED lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the drive power switch is configured:

to employ the voltages induced across the first secondary winding and across the second secondary winding as drive power supply of the third switching device for a prescribed period of time from a point in time when the detection result of the voltage detection circuit is equal to or larger than the threshold; and

to employ only the voltage induced across the second secondary winding as drive power supply of the third switching device after the prescribed period of time elapses.
