Abstract

An image coding method includes: generating a predicted block; calculating a residual block; calculating quantized coefficients by performing transform and quantization on the residual block; calculating a coded residual block by performing inverse quantization and inverse transform on the quantized coefficients; generating a temporary coded block; determining whether or not an offset process is required, to generate first flag information indicating a result of the determination; executing the offset process on the temporary coded block when it is determined that the offset process is required; and performing variable-length coding on the quantized coefficients and the first flag information.

Claims (25)

1. A computer-implemented image decoding method for decoding a bitstream to generate a decoded block, the method comprising:

performing variable-length decoding on the bitstream to obtain (i) quantized coefficients, (ii) first flag information indicating whether or not a first offset process is required, and (iii) second flag information indicating whether or not a second offset process is required;

performing inverse quantization and inverse transform on the quantized coefficients to obtain a decoded residual block;

predicting the decoded block to generate a predicted block;

adding the decoded residual block to the predicted block to generate a temporary decoded block, the temporary decoded block including a luma component and a chroma component of a pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block;

executing, on the luma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block, the first offset process, when the first flag information indicates that the first offset process is required, the first offset process being for modifying a value of the luma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block; and

executing, on the chroma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block, the second offset process, when the second flag information indicates that the second offset process is required, the second offset process being for modifying a value of the chroma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block,

wherein the first offset process is executed to add a first offset value to the value of the luma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block, the first offset value being retrieved from the bitstream,

wherein the second offset process is executed to add a second offset value to the value of chroma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block, the second offset value being retrieved from the bitstream,

wherein third flag information is further obtained, the third flag information indicating whether the first offset value and the second offset value are derived from (i) third offset values calculated for a previously-decoded block adjacent to the decoded block or (ii) fourth offset values calculated for the temporary decoded block, and

wherein when the decoded block is generated, the first offset process and second offset process are executed on the temporary decoded block using one of the third offset values or the fourth offset values indicated by the third flag information.

2. An image decoding apparatus that decodes a bitstream to generate a decoded block, the image decoding apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

a non-transitory memory storing thereon a program, which when executed by the processor, causes the processor to:

perform variable-length decoding on the bitstream to obtain (i) quantized coefficients, (ii) first flag information indicating whether or not a first offset process is required, and (iii) second flag information indicating whether or not a second offset process is required;

perform inverse quantization and inverse transform on the quantized coefficients to obtain a decoded residual block;

predict the decoded block to generate a predicted block;

add the decoded residual block to the predicted block to generate a temporary decoded block, the temporary decoded block including a luma component and a chroma component of a pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block;

execute, on the luma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block, the first offset process, when the first flag information indicates that the first offset process is required, the first offset process being for modifying a value of the luma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block;

execute, on the chroma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block, the second offset process, when the second flag information indicates that the second offset process is required, the second offset process being for modifying a value of the chroma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block; and

obtain third flag information,

wherein the first offset process is executed to add a first offset value to the value of the luma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block, the first offset value being retrieved from the bitstream,

wherein the second offset process is executed to add a second offset value to the value of chroma component of the pixel that is included in the temporary decoded block, the second offset value being retrieved from the bitstream,

wherein the third flag information indicates whether the first offset value and the second offset value are derived from (i) third offset values calculated for a previously-decoded block adjacent to the decoded block or (ii) fourth offset values calculated for the temporary decoded block, and

wherein when the decoded block is generated, the first offset process and second offset process are executed on the temporary decoded block using one of the third offset values or the fourth offset values indicated by the third flag information.
