Abstract

An embodiment of a risk-management method includes determining a risk that one or more subjects each treated for a respective condition by a respective provider will be retreated within a respective retreatment time period, and calculating, in response to a determined risk, a fee for taking a respective action for each of the one or more subjects that is retreated within the respective retreatment time period. For example, such an embodiment may aid in managing a risk of a liability that may be incurred if one or more subjects each treated for a respective condition is retreated for the respective condition, for a complication arising from the respective condition or the treatment of the respective condition, or for another reason, within a respective specified retreatment time period.

wherein determining the risk includes determining the risk in response to the information.

33 .- 37 . (canceled)

38 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating a retreatment contract that includes at least one recital that a party is to pay the fee and that another party is to take the respective action for each of the one or more subjects that is retreated for the respective condition within the respective retreatment time period.

39 . The method of claim 38 wherein the retreatment contract includes an insurance policy.

80 .- 91 . (canceled)

92 . The apparatus of claim 79 wherein the determiner module is configured to determine a probability that at least one of the one or more subjects will be retreated for the respective condition within the respective retreatment time period.

93 .- 97 . (canceled)

98 . The apparatus of claim 79 wherein the respective retreatment time for at least one of the one or more subjects begins after the at least one subject finishes a respective treatment for the respective condition.

99 . The apparatus of claim 79 wherein the respective retreatment time period for at least one of the one or more subjects begins after the at least one subject is discharged from a respective provider that treated the at least one subject for the respective condition.

100 . (canceled)

101 . The apparatus of claim 79 wherein the fee includes an insurance premium.

102 .- 106 . (canceled)

107 . The apparatus of claim 79 , further comprising:

a receiver module configured to receive information about at least one of the one or more subjects; and

wherein the determiner module is configured to determine the risk in response to the information.

108 . The apparatus of claim 79 , further comprising:

a receiver module configured to receive information about the respective condition of at least one of the one or more subjects; and

wherein the determiner module is configured to determine the risk in response to the information.

109 .- 129 . (canceled)

130 . The apparatus of claim 79 , further comprising a generator module configured to generate a retreatment contract that includes:

at least one recital that a party is to pay the fee and that another party is to take the respective for each of the one or more subjects that is retreated for the respective condition within the respective retreatment time period; and

at least one recital that the party is to surrender a respective item of value for each of the one or more subjects that are retreated for the respective condition within the respective retreatment time period where a respective cost of the respective taken action exceeds a respective threshold.

131 .- 132 . (canceled)

133 . The apparatus of claim 79 , further comprising a generator module configured to generate a retreatment contract that includes:

at least one recital that a party is to pay the fee and that another party is to take the respective action for each of the one or more subjects that is retreated for the respective condition within the respective time period; and

at least one recital that each of the one or more subjects is to undergo a respective post-treatment regimen.

134 . The apparatus of claim 79 , further comprising a generator module configured to generate a retreatment contract that includes:

at least one recital that a party is to pay the fee and that another party is to take the respective action for each of the one or more subjects that is retreated for the respective condition within the respective retreatment time period; and

at least one recital that at least one of the party and the other party is to monitor each of the one or more subjects after each subject finishes being treated.

135 . (canceled)

136 . The apparatus of claim 79 , further comprising a generator module configured to generate:

a retreatment contract that includes at least one recital that a party is to pay the fee and that another party is to take the respective action for each of the one or more subjects that is retreated for the respective condition within the respective time period; and
