Abstract

Systems and methods are described using a Hermetic Transform and inverse Hermetic Transform for transmitting and receiving a signal with multiple subcarriers, oversampling the received signal, and providing the resulting signals to a Hermetic Transform to provide a higher resolution output signal. An inverse Hermetic Transform is used to process data for transmission. The result is comparable to a form of OFDM that has orthogonality in a minimum norm/least-squares sense.

Claims (37)

1. A transmitter including:

a processor configured to receive a serial data signal, divide the serial signal into multiple parallel signals, modulate the multiple parallel signals, perform an inverse Hermetic Transform on the multiple parallel signals, and provide an output from the inverse Hermetic Transform to RF circuitry for transmission over a plurality of subcarriers, wherein a first subcarrier spacing of the plurality of subcarriers is less than or equal to one-fourth of a second subcarrier spacing required for an inverse Discrete Fourier Transform.

2. The transmitter of claim 1 , further comprising the processor configured to use a noise-conditioning matrix prior to the inverse Hermetic Transform.

3. The transmitter of claim 1 , wherein the signals are transmitted as I&Q data.

4. The transmitter of claim 1 , further comprising an antenna for transmitting data using multiple subcarriers.

5. The transmitter of claim 1 , wherein a first signal-to-noise ratio of the plurality of subcarriers is greater than a second signal-to-noise ratio that would be provided by an inverse Discrete Fourier Transform.

6. The transmitter of claim 1 , wherein a first inter-symbol interference within the plurality of subcarriers is less than a second inter-symbol interference that would result from an inverse Discrete Fourier Transform.

7. A transmitting method for transmitting signals including:

receiving a serial data signal;

dividing the serial data signal into multiple parallel signals;

modulating the multiple parallel signals;

performing an inverse Hermetic Transform on the multiple parallel signals; and

providing an output from the inverse Hermetic Transform to RF circuitry for transmission over a plurality of subcarriers, wherein a first subcarrier spacing of the plurality of subcarriers is less than or equal to one-fourth of a second subcarrier spacing required for an inverse Discrete Fourier Transform.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising providing the parallel signals to a noise-conditioning matrix prior to the inverse Hermetic Transform.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the signals are transmitted as I&Q data.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising transmitting signals from the RF circuitry using multiple subcarriers.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein a first signal-to-noise ratio of the plurality of subcarriers is greater than a second signal-to-noise ratio that would be provided by an inverse Discrete Fourier Transform.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein a first inter-symbol interference within the plurality of subcarriers is less than a second inter-symbol interference that would result from an inverse Discrete Fourier Transform.

13. A receiver including:

a processor configured to receive a digital signal transmitted over a plurality of subcarriers, wherein a first subcarrier spacing of the plurality of subcarriers is less than or equal to one-fourth of a second subcarrier spacing required for an inverse Discrete Fourier Transform, perform a Hermetic Transform on the received signal to produce multiple paths to demodulate the signals in the multiple paths; and serialize the demodulated data.

14. The receiver of claim 13 , wherein the received digital signals are received as I&Q data.

15. The receiver of claim 13 , further comprising circuitry for an analog RF signal with multiple subcarriers, and an analog-to-digital converter for digitizing the RF signal.
