CONTENT PROVIDER STATISTICS APPLICATION
An intelligent television is provided with reporting abilities. The intelligent television may report information regarding a number of applications installed on the intelligent television. Additionally, an indicia of applications installed and then de-installed may be maintained and reported such that the report includes removed applications. Once a report is created, it may then be stored in a data storage of the intelligent television and delivered to a server. Once successfully delivered, the oldest report may then be removed. Should the delivery of the report fail and free space fall below a threshold, the oldest report, as identified by a sequential or serial number, may then be removed.
1 . A method, comprising:
executing a reporting function of a television;
querying, by the reporting function, a statistics content provider of an application of the television for usage statistics; and
creating, by the reporting function, a report incorporating the queried usage statistics.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the querying the statistics content provider further comprises querying the statistics content provider via an application programming interface of the application.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the application is at least one of a live television application operable to present broadcast television content, an on-demand application operable to present on-demand television content and a media center application operable to present user provided content.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the querying of the statistics content provider causes the application to return at least one of name of the application, package name comprising the application, last session timestamp, and cumulative usage.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the querying of the statistics content provider query causes the application to return the package size.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the querying of the statistics content provider causes the application to return the package size further comprising the size of user data associated with the application.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the querying of the statistics content provider causes the application to return at least one of code version, version name, first install timestamp, last update timestamp.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein creating the report, further comprising:
generating a serial number;
incorporating the serial number into the report; and
storing the report in a data storage associated with the television.
9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:
retrieving the report from the storage; and
sending the report to a remote server.
10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising, upon successfully delivering the report to the remote server, deleting the report.
11 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, upon determining the free space of the storage is below a threshold, deleting a first report stored in the storage with a prior serial number than a second report stored in the storage.
12 . A television, comprising:
a processor;
a data storage;
an application executable by the processor; and
wherein the processor is operable to (a) execute a reporting function of the television, (b) query a statistics content provider of the application for usage statistics, (c) create a report incorporating the queried usage statistics, and (d) store the report in the data storage.
13 . The television of claim 12 , wherein the querying the statistics content provider further comprises querying the statistics content provider application programming interface.
14 . The television of claim 12 , wherein the application is at least one of a live television application operable to present broadcast television content, an on-demand application operable to present on-demand television content, and a media center application operable to present user provided content.
15 . The television of claim 12 , wherein the query causes the application to return at least one of name, package name, last session timestamp, and cumulative usage.
16 . The television of claim 12 , wherein the query causes the application to return at least one of code version, version name, first install timestamp, last update timestamp.
17 . The television of claim 12 , wherein the query causes the application to return the at least one of the package size and the size of user data.
18 . A method, comprising:
querying an application manager of a television, the application manager having records of a number of applications of the television;
returning, by the application manager, indicia associated with currently installed applications; and
returning, by the application manager, indicia associated with removed applications.
19 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising, returning, by the application manager, a last used timestamp of the at least one application.
20 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising, storing in a data storage of the television, a report comprising the query results and a serial number of the report.
