Abstract

A package for storing or containing at least one ethylene response manipulation agent such as 1-methylcyclopropene is disclosed. The package can have multiple film layers, but preferably the outer layer comprises a polymer at least partially soluble when contacted with an aqueous media, and the inner layer comprising an ethylene response manipulation agent permeable film structure. Aerosols comprising the ethylene response manipulation agents are also disclosed.

Claims (20)

1. A package for storage and controlled release of a volatile ethylene response manipulation agent, wherein the package consists of a first film layer and a second film layer formed of different material, wherein the first film layer is an inner film layer comprising a volatile ethylene response manipulation agent permeable film structure, and the second film layer is an outer film layer comprising a water soluble polymer.

2. The package of claim 1 wherein the volatile ethylene response manipulation agent is at least partially encapsulated.

3. The package of claim 2 comprising at least 0.1 percent and up to about 10 percent by weight of the volatile ethylene response manipulation agent.

4. The package of claim 1 wherein the volatile ethylene response manipulation agent is cyclopropene, cyclopropene conjugates, cyclopropene salts, or cyclopropene encapsulating materials.

5. The package of claim 1 wherein the package is a sachet or a pad.

6. The package of claim 5 , wherein the sachet or pad is placed in a storage, transit or food container such that release of the ethylene response manipulation agent is controlled into an environment.

7. The package of claim 1 wherein the inner film layer comprises perforations.

8. The package of claim 7 wherein the perforations have a mean diameter from 40 micrometers to 900 micrometers.

9. The package of claim 1 wherein the inner film layer comprises microporous film, spun-bonded olefin, waxed paper or non woven nylon or olefin films.

10. The package of claim 1 wherein the outer film layer comprises a coating material with a thickness of 1 to 50 μm.

11. The package of claim 1 wherein the package further stores or contains a polyol liquid medium, or a hydrogel medium, or a combination of polyol and hydrogel medium, wherein the at least one volatile ethylene response manipulation agent is dispersed in the medium.

12. The package of claim 2 , wherein the package further stores or contains water absorbing or adsorbing materials.

13. The package of claim 2 wherein the volatile ethylene response manipulation agent is at least partially encapsulated with cyclodextrin.

14. The package of claim 1 wherein the inner film layer has a volatile ethylene response manipulation agent transmission rate, FL-1, at 23° C. of 500 to 250,000 cm 3 /(m 2 -day).

15. The package of claim 14 , wherein the volatile ethylene response manipulation agent is 1-methylcyclopropene.

16. The package of claim 1 wherein the inner film layer has a moisture transmission rate, FL-1, at 37.8° C. of 10 to 500 cm 3 /(m 2 -day).

17. The package of claim 1 , wherein the outer film layer further comprises water absorbing or adsorbing materials.

18. The package of claim 17 wherein the water absorbing or adsorbing materials are polyacrylate based super absorbent polymers, calcium chloride, clay, starch, or silica gel.

19. A multilayer film structure formed into a package for storing and containing a volatile ethylene response manipulation agent and controlling its release into an environment, wherein the multilayer film structure consists of a first film layer and a second film layer housing a partially encapsulated ethylene response manipulation agent, wherein the first film layer and the second film layer are formed of different material, and the second film layer is an outer film layer that is comprising a water soluble polymer, and the first film layer is an inner film layer formed with porosity to allow migration of the volatile ethylene response manipulation agent through the film structure of the package and into an exterior environment.

20. A package for storage and controlled release of a volatile ethylene response manipulation agent, wherein the package consists of a first film layer and a second film layer formed of different material, wherein the first film layer is an inner film layer comprising a volatile ethylene response manipulation agent permeable film structure comprising perforations having a mean diameter from 40 micrometers to 900 micrometers, and the second film layer is an outer film layer comprising a water soluble polymer.
