Abstract

A chemically-modified mixed fuel includes methane gas from at least two methane-production sources and can be utilized in any process that incorporates a Kellogg Primary Reformer. A method for producing the chemically-modified mixed fuel described herein includes providing a first methane-containing gas from a first methane-production source, providing a second methane-containing gas from a second methane-production source and blending the first methane-containing gas with the second methane-containing gas at a suitable pressure to form a chemically-modified mixed fuel. In some cases, at least one additional methane-containing gas can be provided from at least one additional methane-production source and blended with the chemically-modified fuel.

Claims (14)

1. A chemically-modified mixed fuel, wherein the fuel comprises methane gas from at least one fossil source, at least one biogenic source, and at least one abiogenic source.

2. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 1 , wherein the biogenic source comprises landfill gas.

3. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 1 , wherein the percentage of methane in each of the at least one fossil methane-production source and at least one biogenic methane-production source is greater than about 40%.

4. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 1 , wherein the percentage of methane in each of the at least one fossil methane-production source and at least one biogenic methane-production source is greater than about 50%.

5. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 2 , wherein the percentage of methane in the at least one fossil source is greater than about 70%.

6. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 2 , wherein the landfill gas is at least about 40% methane.

7. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 2 , wherein the ratio by volume of the at least one fossil source to the at least one biogenic source is from about 9430:3000 to about 6500:3000.

8. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 1 , wherein the at least one abiogenic methane-production source comprises about 17% to about 25% methane.

9. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 8 , wherein the ratio by volume of the at least one fossil source to the at least one biogenic source to the at least one abiogenic methane-production source is from about 9430:3000:2900 to about 6500:3000:2000.

10. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 1 , wherein the ratio by volume of the at least one fossil source to at least one biogenic source to the at least one abiogenic methane-production source is from about 9430:3000:2900 to about 6500:3000:2000.

11. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 1 , wherein the at least one abiogenic methane-production source comprises about 43% hydrogen.

12. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fossil source comprises about 70 to about 90% methane, the at least one-biogenic source comprises about 45% to about 50% methane, and the at least one abiogenic methane-production source comprises about 17% to about 25% methane.

13. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fossil source comprises about 70 to about 90% methane, the at least one-biogenic source comprises about 45% to about 50% methane, and the at least one abiogenic methane-production source comprises about 17% methane.

14. The chemically-modified fuel of claim 13 , wherein the at least one abiogenic methane-production source comprises about 43% hydrogen and about 40% nitrogen.
