Abstract

Devices and methods are provided for reducing client node power consumption when monitoring first and second channels corresponding to first and second access nodes in a heterogeneous wireless-enabled communications environment. Enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (eICIC) operations are performed to mitigate interference between a first access node and a second access node. The client node monitors first and second channels corresponding to the first and second access nodes. The client node receives restricted measurement data transmitted on the first channel, which is then processed to schedule cessation of monitoring the first channel to reduce power consumption and thereby conserve battery resources.

Claims (28)

1. A client node, comprising:

processing logic operable to monitor a plurality of subframes on a downlink channel and to process a control signal comprising a restricted measurement set data;

wherein said processing logic is further operable to cease monitoring predetermined subframes of said plurality of subframes based on said restricted measurement set data, said client node is further provided with a scheduling option, and said scheduling option is signaled via a scheduling option indicator (SOI).

2. The client node of claim 1 , wherein said restricted measurement set data comprises at least one of the set of:

Channel State Information (CSI) measurement set data;

Radio Resource Management (RRM) measurement set data; and

Radio Link Monitoring (RLM) measurement set data.

3. The client node of claim 1 , wherein said scheduling option is signaled to said client node via a dedicated signaling message.

4. The client node of claim 1 , wherein said scheduling option is provided to said client node implicitly.

5. The client node of claim 1 , wherein said monitoring operations comprise monitoring of a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH).

6. The client node of claim 1 , wherein said scheduling option is to monitor a PDCCH during said subframes within said restricted measurement set data.

7. The client node of claim 1 , wherein said scheduling option is to monitor a PDCCH during said subframes not within said restricted measurement set data.

8. The client node of claim 1 , wherein said SOI is communicated to said client node as a MAC Control element.

9. The client node of claim 1 , wherein said SOI is communicated to said client node in a Radio Resource Control (RRC) message.

10. A method for reducing power consumption of a client node, comprising:

using processing logic to monitor a plurality of subframes on a downlink channel and to process a control signal comprising a restricted measurement set data;

wherein said processing logic is further operable to cease monitoring predetermined subframes of said plurality of subframes based on said restricted measurement set data, said client node is further provided with a scheduling option, and said scheduling option is signaled via a scheduling option indicator (SOI).

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein said restricted measurement set data comprises at least one of the set of:

Channel State Information (CSI) measurement set data;

Radio Resource Management (RRM) measurement set data; and

Radio Link Monitoring (RLM) measurement set data.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein said scheduling option is signaled to said client node via a dedicated signaling message.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein said scheduling option is provided to said client node implicitly.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein said monitoring operations comprise monitoring of a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH).

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein said scheduling option is to monitor a PDCCH during said subframes within said restricted measurement set data.

16. The method of claim 10 , wherein said scheduling option is to monitor a PDCCH during said subframes not within said restricted measurement set data.

17. The method of claim 10 , wherein said SOI is communicated to said client node as a MAC Control element.

18. The method of claim 10 , wherein said SOI is communicated to said client node in a Radio Resource Control (RRC) message.
