Abstract

A rotary drill stem for a well including a central tubular element, and first and second connectors each including a threaded portion that can connect the element to another element. At least one of the connectors includes a chamber in communication with a pressure outside the chamber. The connector includes an annular signal transmission coupler. The annular coupler includes a ring having an annular coupling surface. The coupler includes an insulating support that leaves the annular coupling surface free. The coupler includes a piston surface axially opposite to the annular coupling surface. The annular coupler forms a piston.

Claims (25)

1. A component for a rotary drill stem for a well, comprising:

a central tubular element; and

a first and a second connector each comprising a threaded portion for connecting the component to another component, wherein at least one of the connectors further comprises:

a chamber in communication with a pressure external to the chamber; and

an annular signal transmission coupler, the annular signal transmission coupler comprising:

a ring including an annular coupling surface;

an insulating support leaving the annular coupling surface free; and

a piston surface axially opposed to the annular coupling surface, the annular coupler forming a piston driven by the pressure external to the chamber, the piston surface defining the chamber.

2. The component according to claim 1 , further comprising a channel between the chamber and a peripheral surface of the component.

3. The component according to claim 1 , in which the annular coupler has a fluid-tight structure.

4. The component according to claim 1 , in which the insulating support is fixed to the ring by molecular bonding.

5. The component according to claim 1 , in which the annular coupler further comprises at least one lock to stop rotation with respect to the connector.

6. The component according to claim 1 , in which the connector comprises an annular groove forming a cylinder, the coupler being disposed in the cylinder, the annular coupler and the cylinder forming the chamber, the chamber being defined by at least one concave surface.

7. The component according to claim 1 , in which the ring comprises copper with a low oxygen content and a high conductivity and a copper-beryllium alloy.

8. The component according to claim 1 , in the ring comprises at least two conductors separated by a dielectric means.

9. The component according to claim 8 , in which the dielectric means comprises at least one of following components: polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), perfluoroalkoxide (PFA), polyetheretherketone (PEEK), or polyphenylene sulphide (PPS).

10. The component according to claim 1 , in which the annular coupling surface is substantially planar.

11. The component according to claim 1 , in which the annular coupling surface comprises at least one bevel comprising a tapered surface.

12. The component according to claim 1 , further comprising a sacrificial anode disposed between the insulating support and the annular coupling surface.

13. The component according to claim 1 , in which the annular coupling surface comprises at least two distinct and electrically connected electrical contact surfaces.

14. The component according to claim 1 , in which the annular coupler further comprises a piston surface that is quasi-circular about an axis of the annular coupler and a plug for connecting the annular coupler to a cable, the plug being configured to maintain a seal between the chamber and a housing for the cable.

15. The component according to claim 1 , in which the annular coupler is movable in translation in the connector.

16. The component according to claim 1 , in the piston surface comprises a concave surface.

17. The component according to claim 1 , in which the ring comprises copper with a low oxygen content and a high conductivity.

18. The component according to claim 1 , in which the ring comprises a copper-beryllium alloy.
