Abstract

Vascular treatment and methods include a plurality of self-expanding bulbs and a hypotube including interspersed patterns of longitudinally spaced rows of kerfs. Joints between woven structures and hypotubes include solder. Woven structures include patterns of radiopaque filaments measurable under x-ray. Structures are heat treated to include at least shapes at different temperatures. A catheter includes a hypotube including interspersed patterns of longitudinally spaced rows of kerfs. Heat treating systems include a detachable flange. Laser cutting systems include a fluid flow system.

Claims (44)

1. A catheter comprising:

a hypotube having a longitudinal axis, the hypotube comprising:

a working lumen;

a first pattern comprising a plurality of longitudinally-spaced rows each comprising two kerfs and two stems offset in a first circumferential direction, and

a second pattern comprising a plurality of longitudinally-spaced rows each comprising two kerfs and two stems offset in a second circumferential direction opposite the first circumferential direction, the rows of the second pattern singly alternatingly interspersed with the rows of the first pattern, a pitch of the longitudinally-spaced kerfs of first pattern and the second pattern varying along the longitudinal axis of the hypotube; and

a polymer coating on at least a portion of an outside of the hypotube, wherein at least one parameter of the polymer coating varies along the longitudinal axis of the hypotube, the at least one parameter selected from the group consisting of material, thickness, and durometer, wherein the variation of the at least one parameter of the polymer coating is substantially aligned with the variation of the pitch of the longitudinally-spaced kerfs.

2. The catheter of claim 1 , wherein the hypotube comprises:

a first section having a pitch of about 0.005 inches;

a second section having a pitch of about 0.01 inches;

a third section having a pitch of about 0.02 inches;

a fourth section having a pitch of about 0.04 inches;

a fifth section having a pitch of about 0.08 inches; and

a sixth section having a pitch of about 0.16 inches.

3. The catheter of claim 2 , wherein

the first section is a distal-most section of the hypotube and wherein the first section is about 20% of the hypotube;

the second section is proximal to the first section and wherein the second section is about 15% of the hypotube;

the third section is proximal to the second section and wherein the third section is about 15% of the hypotube;

the fourth section is proximal to the third section and wherein the fourth section is about 15% of the hypotube;

the fifth section is proximal to the fourth section and wherein the fifth section is about 15% of the hypotube; and

the sixth section is proximal to the fifth section and wherein the sixth section is about 20% of the hypotube.

4. The catheter of claim 1 , further comprising a polymer coating on at least a portion of an inside of the hypotube.

5. The catheter of claim 1 , wherein the hypotube comprises stainless steel.

6. The catheter of claim 1 , wherein the hypotube comprises a shape memory material.

7. The catheter of claim 1 , wherein each of the kerfs comprises rounded edges.

8. The catheter of claim 1 , wherein each of the rows is at an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the hypotube.

9. The catheter of claim 1 , wherein the polymer coating is hydrophobic.

10. A catheter comprising:

a hypotube having a longitudinal axis, the hypotube comprising at least one pattern comprising a plurality of longitudinally-spaced rows each comprising two kerfs and two stems offset in a first circumferential direction, wherein a pitch of the longitudinally-spaced kerfs varies along the longitudinal axis of the hypotube;

a first polymer coating radially outward of at least a portion of an outside of the hypotube, wherein at least one parameter of the first polymer coating varies along the longitudinal axis of the hypotube, the at least one parameter selected from the group consisting of material, thickness, and durometer, wherein the variation of the at least one parameter of the first polymer coating is substantially aligned with the variation of the pitch of the longitudinally-spaced kerfs; and

a second polymer coating radially inward of at least a portion of an inside of the hypotube.

11. The catheter of claim 10 , wherein the first polymer coating is different material than the second polymer coating.

12. The catheter of claim 10 , wherein the at least one pattern comprises:

a first pattern comprising a plurality of longitudinally-spaced rows each comprising two kerfs and two stems offset in a first circumferential direction, and

a second pattern comprising a plurality of longitudinally-spaced rows each comprising two kerfs and two stems offset in a second circumferential direction opposite the first circumferential direction.

13. The catheter of claim 12 , wherein each of the kerfs comprises rounded edges.

14. The catheter of claim 12 , wherein each of the rows is at an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the hypotube.

15. The catheter of claim 10 , wherein the first polymer coating is hydrophobic.

16. The catheter of claim 10 , wherein the first polymer coating is different than the second polymer coating.

17. A catheter comprising:

a hypotube having a longitudinal axis, the hypotube comprising at least one pattern comprising a plurality of longitudinally-spaced rows, a pitch of the longitudinally-spaced rows varying along the longitudinal axis of the hypotube; and

a polymer coating over at least a portion of an outside of the hypotube, at least one parameter of the polymer coating varying along the longitudinal axis of the hypotube, the at least one parameter selected from the group consisting of material, thickness, and durometer, wherein the variation of the at least one parameter of the polymer coating is substantially aligned with the variation of the pitch of the longitudinally-spaced rows.

18. The catheter of claim 17 , wherein the polymer coating is hydrophobic.

19. The catheter of claim 17 , further comprising an inner polymer coating radially inward of at least a portion of an inside of the hypotube.

20. The catheter of claim 19 , wherein the polymer coating is different than the inner polymer coating.
