Abstract

An application for a logo with an adjustable internal lighting includes an illuminated logo, a sensor and a circuit that controls the illuminated logo. The brightness and/or color of the illuminated logo are controlled by the circuit based upon ambient light and optionally, a user preference, operating mode and/or time-of-day. The sensor detects ambient light and signals the circuit to increase or decrease the brightness of the illuminated logo.

Claims (34)

1. An illuminated logo system, comprising:

a video screen;

a bezel surrounding the video screen;

said bezel including a logo area in a shape, and a source of light placed and controlled to illuminate the logo area to create an illuminated logo;

a sensor, coupled to the bezel, and operating to measure an amount of light in an area of the bezel and to output a signal indicative thereof; and

a processor that receives said signal from said sensor, and based on said signal from said sensor, produces a pulse width modulated output that connects to said source of light, said pulse width modulated output having a pulse width of 100% to drive the logo area to full brightness when said amount of light is greater than a threshold, and said processor creates a minimum pulse width when a minimum ambient light as detected from the sensor to drive the logo area at low brightness.

2. The system as in claim 1 , wherein said source of light comprises multiple LEDs.

3. The system as in claim 1 , wherein said minimum pulse width is greater than zero percent pulse width in at least one mode of operation.

4. The system as in claim 1 , wherein the processor also receives command from a user to set multiple colors for said source of light.

5. The system as in claim 4 , wherein the colors are set to a first color when the video screen is off, and is set to a second color when the video screen is on.

6. The system as in claim 1 , wherein the source of light is set to provide a constant brightness of the bezel when the video screen is off, and to provide a brightness that is variable based on ambient light when the video screen is on.

7. The system as in claim 6 , wherein the source of light is set to a constant brightness first color when the video screen is off, and a variable brightness second color when the system is on.

8. The system as in claim 1 , wherein the processor controls a brightness of the controlled source of light dependent upon the ambient light as detected by the sensor, wherein the processor controls the logo to be a first color when the video screen is off, and to be a second color when the video screen is on, and wherein the logo is controlled to turn to the second color when the video screen is turned on prior to the screen of the video screen turning on.

9. An illuminated logo system, comprising:

a video screen;

a bezel surrounding the video screen;

said bezel including an illuminated logo, illuminated by a light source;

a sensor, coupled to the bezel, and operating to measure an amount of light in an area of the bezel and to output a signal indicative thereof; and

a processor that controls said light source to a first color when the video screen is off, and controls said light source to a second color when the video screen is on, and where said processor controls the light source to provide a constant brightness of the bezel when the video screen is off, and to provide a brightness of the bezel that is variable based on ambient light when the video screen is on, and where said brightness of the bezel comprises producing a pulse width modulated output that connects to said light source to illuminate said bezel based on said signal from said sensor, said pulse width modulated output having a pulse width of 100% to drive the logo to full brightness when said amount of light is greater than a threshold, and said processor creates a minimum pulse width when a minimum ambient light as detected from the sensor to drive the logo at low brightness.

10. The system as in claim 9 , wherein said light source comprises multiple LEDs.

11. The system as in claim 9 , wherein said minimum pulse width is greater than zero percent pulse width.

12. The system as in claim 9 , wherein the light source is set to a constant brightness first color when the video screen is off, and a variable brightness second color when the system is on.

13. The system as in claim 9 , wherein the processor controls a brightness of the light source dependent upon the ambient light as detected by the sensor, wherein the processor controls the logo to be a first color when the video screen is off, and to be a second color when the video screen is on, and wherein the logo is controlled to turn to the second color when the video screen is turned on prior to the screen of the video screen turning on.

14. A method of illuminating a logo on a bezel of a video screen, comprising:

illuminating a logo that is on a bezel surrounding a video screen by controlling a light source;

sensing an amount of light in an area of the bezel;

said controlling comprising controlling said light source to a first color when the video screen is off, and controlling said light source to a second color when the video screen is on, and controlling to a constant brightness of the bezel when the video screen is off, and controlling to a variable brightness bezel when the video screen is on,

and where said controlling to said variable brightness bezel comprises producing a pulse width modulated output that connects to said light source to illuminate said bezel based on said sensing, said pulse width modulated output having a pulse width of 100% to drive the logo to full brightness when said amount of light is greater than a threshold, and creates a minimum pulse width when a minimum ambient light as detected from the sensing to drive the logo at low brightness.

15. The method as in claim 14 , wherein said light source comprises multiple LEDs.

16. The method as in claim 14 , wherein said minimum pulse width is greater than zero percent pulse width.

17. The method as in claim 14 , wherein said minimum pulse width is 30 percent pulse width.

18. The method as in claim 14 , wherein the light source is set to a constant brightness first color when the video screen is off, and to a variable brightness second color when the video screen is on.

19. The method as in claim 14 , wherein said controlling controls a brightness of the controlled source of light dependent upon the ambient light based on said sensing,

said controlling operating to control the logo to be a first color when the video screen is off, and to be a second color when the video screen is on, and wherein the logo is controlled to turn to the second color when the video screen is turned on prior to the screen of the video screen turning on.
