Abstract

A system and method of sensing and responding to service discoveries on a consumer's machine and, more particularly, to a system and method of sensing (discovering) service needs on a consumer's machine using a resident Daemon, and responding to the service discoveries using an extension of UDDI. The method comprises receiving a keyword from a local machine, locating a service associated with the keyword, and notifying the local machine about the service that matches the keyword.

Claims (30)

1. A method for deploying an application for discovering and providing consumer services in a computing environment, comprising:

receiving, by a third party computing device, a keyword from a daemon residing on a local machine; and

providing, by the third party computing device, service information of a first service machine of a plurality of service machines to the local machine, wherein:

the keyword matches the provided service information matches to a keyword list maintained by the third party computing device; and

the third party computing device is external to the local machine and provides a bridge between the local machine and the plurality of service machines.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the providing comprises searching for a match of the keyword in the keyword list.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising indexing the keyword prior to the searching for the match.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising maintaining, by the third party computing device, the keyword list in a Central Service Discovery Program (CSDP) that is an extension to a Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI).

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the maintaining comprises maintaining a plurality of keyword lists corresponding to one or more service groups connected to the CSDP.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the providing comprises:

periodically polling the keyword list; and

determining new matches with the keyword.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing the keyword to the first service machine.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the providing the keyword comprises providing the keyword to the first service machine after a predetermined number of the same keyword is received from the daemon.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the providing the service information comprises providing connection information for the first service machine to the local machine.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the keyword is found by the daemon on the local machine during a periodic searching of the local machine for keywords contained in a master keyword list.

11. A system comprising:

a server providing a bridge between a client machine and a plurality of service machines, the server being configured to provide service information of a first service machine of the plurality of service machines to the client machine,

wherein the service information matches a keyword received from a daemon at the client machine to a keyword list maintained by the server.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the server is configured to search for a match of the keyword in the keyword list.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the server is configured to index the keyword prior to the searching for the match.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the server includes a Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) and Central Service Discovery Program (CSDP).

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the server is configured to provide the keyword list via the UDDI.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the server is configured to maintain a plurality of keyword lists corresponding to one or more service groups.

17. The system claim 11 , wherein the server is configured to:

periodically poll the keyword list; and

determine new matches with the keyword.

18. The system claim 11 , wherein the server is configured to provide the keyword to the first service machine.

19. The system claim 18 , wherein the server is configured to provide the keyword to the first service machine after a predetermined number of the same keyword is received from the daemon.

20. The system claim 11 , wherein the server is configured to provide connection information for the first service machine to the client machine.
