Abstract

In some embodiments, an electric scooter comprises a deck configured to support a rider, front and rear wheels, a handlebar assembly that includes a handlebar, a left handle, and a right handle, a steering column that includes a steering tube and the handlebar assembly, and an electric motor configured to provide mechanical power to at least one of the front and the rear wheels. One or more of the steering column, steering tube, handlebar assembly, handlebar, left handle, right handle, and deck can be configured to be detachable and comprise one or more rechargeable battery packs. In addition, one or more of the steering column, steering tube, handlebar assembly, handlebar, left handle, right handle, and deck can be configured to receive one or more removable rechargeable batteries.

Claims (44)

1. An electric scooter comprising:

a deck configured to support a rider;

a front wheel and a rear wheel;

a handlebar assembly comprising a handlebar, a left handle, and a right handle;

a steering column comprising a steering tube and the handlebar assembly, the steering column configured to steer the scooter by controlling a direction of the front wheel; and

an electric motor configured to provide mechanical power to at least one of the front and the rear wheels;

wherein the steering column is configured to be detachable from an associated portion of the scooter and comprises one or more rechargeable battery packs, the one or more rechargeable battery packs configured to power the electric motor;

wherein the steering column comprising the one or more rechargeable battery packs is configured to be placed into a charger for charging of the one or more rechargeable battery packs.

2. The electric scooter of claim 1 , wherein the left and right handles are configured to be separately detachable, and the left handle and right handle each comprises at least one of the one or more rechargeable battery packs.

3. The electric scooter of claim 2 , wherein the one or more battery rechargeable packs comprise lithium-ion rechargeable batteries.

4. An electric scooter comprising:

a deck configured to support a rider;

a front wheel and a rear wheel;

a handlebar assembly comprising a handlebar, a left handle, and a right handle;

a steering column comprising a steering tube and the handlebar assembly, the steering column configured to steer the scooter by controlling a direction of the front wheel;

an electric motor configured to provide mechanical power to at least one of the front and the rear wheels;

wherein the left and right handles are configured to be separately detachable, and the left handle and right handle each comprise one or more rechargeable battery packs configured to power the electric motor;

wherein the left and right handles are configured to be interchangeable with each other such that the left handle can be detached, recharged, and reattached as a left or right handle and the right handle can be detached, recharged, and reattached as a left or right handle;

wherein the one or more rechargeable battery packs of the left and right handles are configured to be recharged by placing the handle in a recharging station configured to receive the handle.

5. An electric scooter comprising:

a deck configured to support a rider;

a front wheel and a rear wheel;

a handlebar assembly comprising a handlebar, a left handle, and a right handle;

a steering column comprising a steering tube and the handlebar assembly, the steering column configured to steer the scooter by controlling a direction of the front wheel;

an electric motor configured to provide mechanical power to at least one of the front and the rear wheels;

wherein the left and right handles are configured to be separately detachable, and the left handle and right handle each comprise one or more rechargeable battery packs configured to power the electric motor;

wherein the left and right handles are configured to be interchangeable with each other such that the left handle can be detached, recharged, and reattached as a left or right handle and the right handle can be detached, recharged, and reattached as a left or right handle;

wherein the left and right handles are each configured to attach to the handlebar through a snap-on mechanism.

6. An electric scooter comprising:

a deck configured to support a rider;

a front wheel and a rear wheel;

a handlebar assembly comprising a handlebar, a left handle, and a right handle;

a steering column comprising a steering tube and the handlebar assembly, the steering column configured to steer the scooter by controlling a direction of the front wheel;

an electric motor configured to provide mechanical power to at least one of the front and the rear wheels;

wherein the handlebar assembly is configured to be detachable and comprises one or more rechargeable battery packs configured to power the electric motor;

wherein the detachable handlebar assembly is configured to attach to the steering tube through a snap-on mechanism.

7. An electric scooter comprising:

a deck configured to support a rider;

a front wheel and a rear wheel;

a handlebar assembly comprising a handlebar, a left handle, and a right handle;

a steering column comprising a steering tube and the handlebar assembly, the steering column configured to steer the scooter by controlling a direction of the front wheel; and

an electric motor configured to provide mechanical power to at least one of the front and the rear wheels;

wherein the left handle, the right handle, the handlebar and the steering tube are configured to be separately detachable from an associated portion of the scooter and each comprises at least one of the one or more rechargeable battery packs, the one or more rechargeable battery packs configured to power the electric motor;

wherein each of the left handle, the right handle, the handlebar and the steering tube comprising the one or more rechargeable battery packs is configured to be placed into a charger for charging of the one or more rechargeable battery packs.
