Abstract

Techniques for workload coordination are provided. An automated discovery service identifies resources with hardware and software specific dependencies for a workload. The dependencies are made generic and the workload and its configuration with the generic dependencies are packaged. At a target location, the packaged workload is presented and the generic dependencies automatically resolved with new hardware and software dependencies of the target location. The workload is then automatically populated in the target location.

Claims (27)

1. A method, comprising:

identifying, on a processor, a workload on a first cloud;

developing, on the processor, a workload configuration for the workload based on hardware and software settings embedded in the workload that are linked to the first cloud, and wherein the hardware and software settings identify:

Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, Domain Name System names, certificates, and machine ports;

packaging, on the processor, the workload configuration for the workload with generic definitions for the settings that are independent of the first cloud by tokenizing each setting within the workload configuration with a token, each same token representing a specific setting for a specific hardware and software setting embedded in the workload for the first cloud, and wherein the each same token is a particular token that appears in multiple places within the workload configuration for a particular setting that is used multiple times within the workload configuration and providing the packaged workload configuration with installers for automatically installing the packaged workload configuration to a second cloud by the installers replacing the tokens with second cloud hardware and software specific settings;

deploying, via the processor, the workload with the packaged workload configuration to the second cloud; and

establishing and providing access to, by a processor of the second cloud, the workload with the second cloud hardware and software specific settings responsive to the deploying.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying further includes identifying the workload based on a machine identifier for a machine having the processor.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein identifying further includes obtaining the machine identifier as a barcode scan.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein obtaining further includes wirelessly receiving the barcode scan from a mobile device of a user.

5. The method of claim 2 , wherein identifying further includes obtaining the machine identifier as a selection made for the machine by a user interacting with a Graphical User Interface (GUI).

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein developing further includes discovering resources used by the workload in the first cloud as some of the hardware and software settings.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein developing further includes defining at least some of the hardware and software settings as being specific to resources used within a processing environment of the first cloud.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein defining further includes verifying at least some of the settings as access permissions associated with a user that is requesting the workload on the second cloud.

9. A method, comprising:

downloading, on a cloud server, a workload package from a remote server;

replacing, at the cloud server, generic hardware and software settings for a configuration defined for a workload identified within the workload package with specific hardware and software settings used with the cloud server based on tokens present in the configuration representing the generic hardware and software settings, wherein the replacing further includes replacing, at the cloud server, each same token representing a specific setting defined in the workload with a particular one of the specific hardware and software settings for deployment of the workload on the cloud server, and wherein the each same token is a particular token that appears in multiple places within the configuration for a particular setting that is used multiple times within the configuration and wherein the hardware and software settings identify each of:

Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Domain Name System names, certificates, and machine ports;

deploying, on the cloud server, the workload with the specific hardware and software settings by processing installers included in the workload package that perform the replacing of the generic hardware and software settings within the specific hardware and software settings for the cloud server; and

establishing and providing access to, by the cloud server, the workload with the specific hardware and software settings responsive to the deploying.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein downloading further includes receiving a request for the workload package from a mobile device of a user.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein receiving further includes identifying the cloud server based on a dynamically determined geographical position for the mobile device.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein downloading further includes identifying the cloud server based on evaluation of metrics and a policy.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein identifying further includes evaluating some metrics as expense data for using the cloud server by a user.

14. The method of claim 9 further comprising, enforcing, on the cloud server, access permissions against a user accessing the workload based, the access permissions defined in the specific hardware and software settings.

15. The method of claim 9 further comprising, de-provisioning, via the cloud server, the workload based on a terminating event.

16. The method of claim 9 further comprising, enforcing, via the cloud server, usage limitations for processing the workload, the usage limitations defined in the specific hardware and software settings.
