Abstract

Apparatus and methods to manage media files using metadata injection provide a mechanism to enhance user interaction with multimedia devices. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Claims (28)

1. A wireless server comprising:

at least one processor;

a metadata storage configured to store metadata files associated with media files;

a buffer configured to acquire from the metadata storage metadata files associated with one or more files identified for transfer to a wireless device;

an output buffer configured to store modified files to be transferred to the wireless device; and

an extractor configured to modify metadata in the metadata files in the buffer during a synchronization of the wireless device with the wireless server, and to write the modified metadata files into the output buffer, wherein the extractor modifies the metadata in the metadata files by injecting additional data into the metadata files and the injecting additional data includes injecting policy parameters and user settings associated with the one or more media files into the metadata files.

2. The wireless server of claim 1 , wherein the extractor is further configured to modify the metadata in the metadata files by injecting album art associated with the one or more media files into the metadata files.

3. The wireless server of claim 1 , wherein the extractor is further configured to modify the metadata in the metadata files by injecting artifacts indicative of a source of the transfer into the metadata files.

4. The wireless server of claim 1 , wherein the extractor is further configured to modify the metadata in the metadata files by injecting viewing limitations associated with the one or more media files into the metadata files.

5. The wireless server of claim 1 , further comprising:

a communication link configured to transfer the modified metadata files in the output buffer together with the one or more media files to the wireless device.

6. The wireless server of claim 1 , wherein the extractor is configured to modify the metadata in the metadata files during a transfer of the metadata files from the wireless server to the wireless device.

7. A computer-implemented method of modifying metadata files on a wireless server comprising:

storing metadata files associated with one or more media files identified for transfer to a wireless device in a metadata storage;

outputting the metadata files associated with the one or more media files identified for transfer to the wireless device from the metadata storage to the buffer;

modifying metadata in the metadata files in the buffer during a transfer of the metadata files from the wireless server to the wireless device by injecting additional data into the metadata files, wherein the injecting additional data into the metadata files includes injecting policy parameters and user settings associated with the one or more media files into the metadata files; and

writing the modified metadata files into an output buffer to be transferred to the wireless device.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

transferring the modified metadata files from the output buffer to the wireless device together with the one or more media files.

The method of claim 7 , wherein modifying metadata in the metadata files further includes injecting album art associated with the one or more media files, source or sources associated with the album artwork, confidence levels regarding these sources, and artifacts generated from injecting the album artwork.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein modifying metadata in the metadata files further includes injecting artifacts indicative of a source of the transfer.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein modifying metadata in the metadata files further includes injecting viewing limitations associated with the one or more media files.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein modifying metadata in the metadata files comprises modifying the metadata in the metadata files during a synchronization of the wireless device with the wireless server.

13. A computer-implemented method of modifying metadata files on a wireless server comprising:

storing metadata files associated with one or more media files identified for transfer to a wireless device in a metadata storage;

outputting the metadata files associated with the one or more media files identified for transfer to the wireless device from the metadata storage to the buffer;

modifying metadata in the metadata files in the buffer during a transfer of the metadata files from the wireless server to the wireless device by injecting additional data into the metadata files, wherein modifying metadata in the metadata files further includes injecting album art associated with the one or more media files, source or sources associated with the album artwork, confidence levels regarding these sources, and artifacts generated from injecting the album artwork; and

writing the modified metadata files into an output buffer to be transferred to the wireless device.
