Method and apparatus for fixing a graft in a bone tunnel
A method and apparatus for fixing a ligament in a bone tunnel by cross-pinning the ligament in the bone tunnel.
1. A surgical method, comprising:
forming a bone tunnel in bone;
positioning a distal portion of a guide rod within the bone tunnel;
moving a guide element attached to a frame relative to the frame to position the guide element external to a patient at a desired location relative to the bone, the guide element having at least one bore formed therethrough and the guide rod being attached to the frame;
advancing a first elongate shaft having a first pointed distal tip through the at least one bore from a left or right side of the bone tunnel and positioning the first pointed distal tip within the bone tunnel; and
after moving the guide element, advancing a second elongate shaft having a second pointed distal tip from a side of the bone tunnel so as to position the second pointed distal tip thereof within the bone tunnel, the side of the bone tunnel being on the other of the left or right side of the bone tunnel.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising advancing a graft into the bone tunnel, the advancement of the second elongate shaft causing the second pointed distal tip to penetrate the graft within the bone tunnel.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the second pointed distal tip passes fully through the graft.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one bore includes first and second bores, and advancing the first elongate shaft through the at least one bore includes advancing the first elongate shaft through the first bore.
