Abstract

A videoconferencing system which encodes different streams of information. The information may include video, audio, speech recognized versions of the audio, and language translated versions of the audio. Text may be sent as part of the videoconference.

Claims (48)

1. A videoconferencing method comprising:

compressing, by a first unit, audio data of a videoconferencing data stream to generate a compressed first audio stream;

associating, by the first unit, time alignment information with the compressed first audio stream, the time alignment information usable for aligning the compressed first audio stream with corresponding video data of the videoconferencing data stream;

receiving, by the first unit from a second unit, a communication about a second audio stream received by the second unit, the communication indicating a conflict between the compressed first audio stream and the second audio stream;

delaying, by the first unit, transmission of the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information in response to said receiving the communication; and

transmitting, by the first unit to the second unit, the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information after said delaying the transmission.

2. The videoconferencing method of claim 1 , further comprising storing the compressed first audio stream in response to said receiving the communication.

3. The videoconferencing method of claim 1 , wherein said transmitting the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information is in response to determining that the conflict has cleared.

4. The videoconferencing method of claim 1 , further comprising:

compressing the corresponding video data to generate a compressed video stream; and

delaying transmission of the compressed video stream in response to said receiving the communication.

5. The videoconferencing method of claim 2 , further comprising transmitting the stored compressed first audio stream in response to determining that the conflict has cleared.

6. A system comprising a processing device, the processing device configured to execute instructions that cause the system to:

compress audio data to generate a compressed first audio stream;

associate time alignment information with the compressed first audio stream, wherein the time alignment information is indicative of time alignment of the compressed first audio stream with corresponding video data;

receive, from a second system, a communication about a second audio stream received by the second system, wherein the communication is indicating a conflict between the compressed first audio stream and the second audio stream;

delay transmission of the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information in response to receiving the communication; and

transmit, to the second system, the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information after delaying the transmission.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the processing device is further configured to execute instructions that cause the system to store the compressed first audio stream in response to receiving the communication.

8. The system of claim 6 , wherein the processing device is further configured to execute instructions that cause the system to transmit the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information in response to determining that the conflict has cleared.

9. The system of claim 6 , wherein the processing device is further configured to execute instructions that cause the system to:

compress the corresponding video data to generate a compressed video stream; and

delay transmission of the compressed video stream in response to receiving the communication.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the processing device is further configured to execute instructions that cause the system to transmit the first compressed audio stream in response to determining that the conflict has cleared.

11. A computer readable storage medium comprising computer executable instructions tangibly embodied on the computer readable storage medium, the medium comprising instructions that, in response to execution by a computing device, cause the computing device to:

compress audio data of a videoconferencing data stream to generate a compressed first audio stream;

associate time alignment information with the compressed first audio stream, wherein the time alignment information is usable for aligning the compressed first audio stream with corresponding video data of the videoconferencing data stream;

receive, from a second computing device, a communication about a second audio stream received by the second computing device, wherein the communication is indicating a conflict between the compressed first audio stream and the second audio stream;

delay transmission of the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information in response to receiving the communication; and

transmit, to the second computing device, the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information after delaying the transmission.

12. The computer readable storage medium of claim 11 , further comprising instructions that, in response to execution by the computing device, cause the computing device to store the compressed first audio stream in response to receiving the communication.

13. The computer readable storage medium of claim 11 , further comprising instructions that, in response to execution by the computing device, cause the computing device to transmit the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information in response to determining that the conflict has cleared.

14. The computer readable storage medium of claim 11 , further comprising instructions that, in response to execution by a computing device, cause the computing device to:

compress the corresponding video data to generate a compressed video stream; and

delay transmission of the compressed video stream in response to receiving the communication.

15. The computer readable storage medium of claim 12 , further comprising instructions that, in response to execution by the computing device, cause the computing device to transmit the stored compressed first audio stream in response to determining that the conflict has cleared.

16. A videoconferencing system comprising:

means for compressing audio data to generate a compressed first audio stream;

means for associating time alignment information with the compressed first audio stream, wherein the time alignment information is indicative of time alignment of the compressed first audio stream with corresponding video data;

means for receiving, from a second videoconferencing system, a communication about a second audio stream received by the second videoconferencing system, wherein the communication is indicating a conflict between the compressed first audio stream and the second audio stream;

means for delaying transmission of the first compressed audio stream and time alignment information in response to receiving the communication; and

means for transmitting, to the second videoconferencing system, the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information after delaying the transmission.

17. The system of claim 16 , further comprising means for storing the compressed first audio stream in response to receiving the communication.

18. The system of claim 16 , wherein the means for transmitting is configured to transmit the compressed first audio stream and time alignment information in response to determining that the conflict has cleared.

19. The system of claim 16 , further comprising:

means for compressing the corresponding video data to generate a compressed video stream; and

means for delaying transmission of the compressed video stream in response to receiving the communication.

20. The system of claim 17 , wherein the means for transmitting is configured to transmit the stored compressed first audio stream in response to determining that the conflict has cleared.
