Eye position registering and tracking
Embodiments of the invention refer to a system for registering and tracking the position of a person's eye, in particular for refractive ophthalmic surgery. According to embodiments, the system is structured such that eye images containing at least the iris and the pupil of the eye are made at a first wavelength of light and that eye images containing scleral blood vessels are made at a different second wavelength of light. The invention furthermore refers to a corresponding method for registering and tracking the position of a person's eye.
1. A method for registering or tracking an eye, the method comprising:
recording an initial image of a patient's eye in a reference position;
obtaining a landmark in the initial image, wherein the landmark corresponds to image data of the initial image that represents blood vessels or parts thereof;
based on the landmark, selecting a region of interest as part of the initial image which is to be used for eye tracking or registration;
performing a displacement measurement for the region of interest to obtain a displacement between the initial image and a momentary image of the patient's eye, wherein performing the displacement measurement comprises:
recording the momentary image of the patient's eye;
calculating a change of eye position between the initial image and the momentary image; and
outputting a signal representing the change of eye position;
wherein:
recording the momentary image comprises recording a first image containing the iris and the pupil of the eye at a first wavelength of light and recording a second image containing scleral blood vessels at a different second wavelength of light; and
calculating the change of eye position comprises calculating a displacement of the scleral blood vessels between the initial image and the second image.
