TABLET CUTTER WITH SLIDE GUIDE AND METHODS
A pill splitter includes a base, a cover pivotably secured to the base, a cutting blade attached to the cover, and a pill holder arrangement. The pill holder arrangement includes a slideable fixture constructed and arranged to be movable relative to the base and hold the pill. The pill holder arrangement allows a pill to split when the cover is moved in a closed position.
1 . A method of splitting a pill; the method comprising:
(a) providing a pill splitter having a base, a cover pivotably connected to the base, and a cutting blade attached to the cover;
(b) placing a pill in a pill holder in the base; the pill holder including a platform raised in height relative to a remaining portion of the base;
(c) pushing a slidable fixture including a rail to secure the pill in the pill holder; and
(d) closing the cover over the base to engage the cutting blade against the pill and split the pill within the pill holder.
2 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:
(a) after the step of closing the cover, viewing the pill in the pill holder through a magnified lens that is part of the cover.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein
(a) the step of placing a pill holder includes the pill holder platform having a slide track; and
(b) the step of pushing a slidable fixture includes pushing the rail slidably held within the slide track.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein:
(a) the step of pushing a slidable fixture includes pushing a slidable fixture having an arched arm arrangement.
5 . The method of claim 4 wherein:
(a) the step of pushing a slidable fixture includes pushing a finger tab connected to the arm arrangement to move the slidable fixture relative to the base.
6 . The method of claim 5 wherein:
(a) the step of closing the cover includes having the cutting blade penetrate a gap in the arm arrangement and finger tab.
7 . The method of claim 1 wherein:
(a) the step of pushing a slidable fixture includes pushing a slidable fixture until the pill is held between a portion of the slidable fixture and a rigid back projection arrangement.
