Abstract

A fixation device for delivery of biological material between soft tissue and bone. The fixation device includes an anchor having a first longitudinal bore and a first radial extending delivery bore and an insert having a second longitudinal bore and a second radial extending delivery bore. The first and second radial extending bores are aligned and positioned relative to a head of the anchor to deliver the biologic material between the soft tissue and the bone.

Claims (23)

1. A method for attaching soft tissue to bone, comprising:

forming a bore in bone;

coupling a fixation device to a distal end of a delivery device;

inserting the fixation device into the bone bore;

positioning a radial passage in at least one of the fixation device and the delivery device at an interface between soft tissue and an outer surface of the bone; and

delivering biological material between the soft tissue and the outer surface of the bone through a longitudinal bore in the delivery device that is in communication with the radial passage.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising placing the soft tissue on the outer surface of the bone and above the bone bore.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising inserting the fixation device through the soft tissue before inserting the fixation device into the bone bore.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein coupling the fixation device to the distal end of the delivery device includes inserting a portion of the fixation device into a non-circular bore extending axially into the distal end of the delivery device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein positioning the radial passage at the interface between the soft tissue and the outer surface of the bone includes partially seating the fixation device in the bone bore.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein positioning the radial passage at the interface between the soft tissue and the outer surface of the bone includes fully seating the fixation device in the bone bore.

7. A method for attaching soft tissue to bone, comprising:

coupling a fixation device to a distal end of a delivery device;

inserting the fixation device into the bone;

positioning a radial passage in the delivery device at an interface between soft tissue and an outer surface of the bone; and

delivering biological material between the soft tissue and the outer surface of the bone through a longitudinal bore in the delivery device that is in communication with the radial passage.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising passing a suture through an eyelet in the fixation device.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising attaching the suture to the soft tissue to couple the fixation device to the soft tissue.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising rotating the delivery device to thread the fixation device into the bone.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein the delivery device includes a tubular shaft defining the longitudinal bore and the radial passage.

12. The method of claim 7 , further comprising forming a bore in the bone, wherein inserting the fixation device into the bone includes inserting the fixation device into the bone bore.

13. The method of claim 7 , wherein positioning the radial passage at the interface between the soft tissue and the outer surface of the bone includes partially seating the fixation device in the bone.

14. The method of claim 7 , wherein positioning the radial passage at the interface between the soft tissue and the outer surface of the bone includes fully seating the fixation device in the bone.
