Abstract

A system, method, and auditing device for tracking removal of CPI. The auditing device includes a processor for executing a set of instructions and a memory for storing the set of instructions. The set of instructions are executed to receive one or more electronic devices for verification of CPI removal, the one or more electronic devices being one or more of a plurality of makes and models of electronic devices, determine whether CPI is included on the one or more electronic devices, record an identification and metadata of the one or more electronic devices in response to determining CPI is included on the one or more electronic devices, quarantine the one or more electronic devices until the CPI is verifiably removed, and record the identification and metadata for the one or more electronic devices to a database in response to determining the CPI was included on the one or more electronic devices.

Claims (58)

1. An auditing device for tracking removal of customer personal information (CPI) comprising:

a processor for executing a set of instructions; and

a memory for storing the set of instructions, wherein the set of instructions are executed to:

collect data scanned from a return label associated with an electronic device;

match the data on the return label to a merchant;

select a set of merchant rules associated with the merchant, the merchant rules specify disposition of the electronic device;

determine whether the CPI is included on the electronic device;

record an identification and metadata of the electronic device in response to determining the CPI is included on the electronic device;

quarantine the electronic device in response to determining the CPI is included on the electronic device;

prevent processing of the electronic device until the CPI is verifiably removed;

record the identification and metadata for the electronic device to a database in response to determining the CPI was included on the electronic device; and

process shipment of the electronic device in accordance with the merchant rules.

2. The auditing device of claim 1 , wherein the database is accessible by a plurality of auditing devices in a plurality of facilities.

3. The auditing device of claim 1 , wherein the set of instruction are further executed to remove the CPI from the electronic device in response to determining the CPI is included on the electronic device; and verify the CPI is removed from the electronic device to remove the quarantine for the electronic device.

4. The auditing device of claim 3 , wherein the set of instructions are further executed to:

update software on the electronic device in response to verifiably removing the CPI from the electronic device.

5. The auditing device of claim 1 , wherein the auditing device is integrated with a warehouse management system (WMS).

6. The auditing device of claim 1 , wherein the auditing device communicates with the electronic device through a wireless connection.

7. The auditing device of claim 1 , wherein the auditing device determines whether the CPI is included on the electronic device by comparing a memory map of the electronic device against a default memory map.

8. The auditing device of claim 1 , wherein the set of instructions are further executed to prevent redistribution of an electronic device outside of a facility associated with the auditing device in response to determining the electronic device includes the CPI.

9. The auditing device of claim 1 , wherein the set of instructions are further executed to:

indicate to a user that the electronic device includes a non-conformity in response to detecting the CPI on the electronic device.

10. An auditing device comprising:

a processor for executing a set of instructions; and

a memory for storing the set of instructions, wherein the set of instructions are executed to:

receive an electronic device for verification of customer personal information (CPI) removal;

collect data scanned from a return label associated with the electronic device;

match the data on the return label to a merchant;

select a set of merchant rules associated with the merchant, the merchant rules specify disposition of the electronic device;

determine whether the CPI is included on the electronic device; and

quarantine the electronic device in response to determining the CPI is included on the electronic device; and

prevent processing of the electronic device until the CPI is verifiably removed.

11. The auditing device of claim 10 , wherein the set of instruction are further executed to:

remove the CPI from the electronic device in response to determining the CPI is included on the electronic device; and

verify the CPI is removed from the electronic device to remove the quarantine for the electronic device.

12. The auditing device of claim 11 , wherein the set of instructions are further executed to:

update software on the electronic device in response to verifiably removing the CPI from the electronic device.

13. The auditing device of claim 10 , wherein the set of instructions are further executed to:

determine whether the CPI is included on the electronic device by comparing a memory map of the electronic device against a default memory map.

14. An auditing system comprising:

a database connected to a network;

a processor for executing a set of instructions; and

a memory in communication with the database for storing the set of instructions, wherein the set of instructions are executed to:

receive an electronic device for verification of customer personal information (CPI) removal;

collect data scanned from a return label associated with the electronic device;

match the data on the return label to a merchant;

select a set of merchant rules associated with the merchant, the merchant rules specify disposition of the electronic device;

determine whether the CPI is included on the electronic device;

quarantine the electronic device in response to determining the CPI is included on the electronic device;

prevent processing of the electronic device until the CPI is verifiably removed;

record an identification and metadata of the electronic device in response to determining the CPI is included on the electronic device; and

process shipment of the electronic device in accordance with the merchant rules.

15. The auditing system according to claim 14 , wherein the set of instructions are further executed to prevent redistribution of an electronic device outside of a facility associated with the auditing system in response to determining the electronic device includes the CPI.

16. The auditing system according to claim 14 , wherein a quarantine record is associated with the electronic device in the database.

17. The auditing system according to claim 14 , wherein the set of instructions are further executed to:

indicate to a user that the electronic device includes a non-conformity in response to detecting the CPI on the electronic device.

18. The auditing system according to claim 14 , wherein the set of instructions are further executed to:

update software on the electronic device in response to verifiably removing the CPI from the electronic device.
