Abstract

There is provided an image processing system and an image processing method able to suppress block distortion in the case of decoding image data encoded in unit of blocks. A controlling unit selects a filtering content to be applied to the block image data based on the encoding types of the block image data to be filtered, and a filtering unit applies filtering to the block image data to be processed according to the filtering content selected by the controlling unit.

Claims (43)

1. An image processing apparatus for decoding an encoded image data having a plurality of blocks of image data, the image processing apparatus comprising:

a controlling unit configured to generate a block boundary strength data indicating a filter strength when an orthogonal transform type of a first block of the image data is different from an orthogonal transform type of a second block of the image data, wherein the first block of image data and the second block of image data are adjacent, and

a filtering unit configured to apply filtering to the blocks of the image data according to the block boundary strength data selected by the controlling unit,

wherein at least one of the controlling unit and the filtering unit is implemented via a processor.

2. The image processing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein

the filtering strength of the filtering applied by the filtering unit is stronger when the orthogonal transform type of the first block of the image data is not different from the orthogonal transform type of the second block of the image data.

3. The image processing apparatus of claim 2 , further comprising:

a picture rearrangement buffer configured to provide a decoded image data in an order for displaying on a display unit.

4. The image processing apparatus of claim 2 , further comprising:

a D/A conversion circuit configured to apply a digital-to-analog conversion to a decoded image data to generate an image signal for output.

5. The image processing system of claim 2 , further comprising:

an interface configured to receive the encoded image data as an input and to output a processing result of the encoded image data.

6. An image processing method of decoding an encoded image data having a plurality of blocks of image data, wherein the image processing method is performed via control by a processor of an image processing apparatus, and the method comprises:

generating, via control by the processor, a block boundary strength data indicating a filter strength when an orthogonal transform type of a first block of the image data is different from an orthogonal transform type of a second block of the image data, wherein the first block of image data and the second block of image data are adjacent, and

applying, via control by the processor, filtering to the blocks of the image data according to the selected block boundary strength data.

7. The image processing method of claim 6 , wherein

the filtering strength of the applied filtering is stronger when the orthogonal transform type of the first block of the image data is not different from the orthogonal transform type of the second block of the image data.

8. The image processing method of claim 7 , further comprising:

buffering, via control by the processor, to provide a decoded image data in an order for displaying on a display unit.

9. The image processing method of claim 7 , further comprising:

applying, via control by the processor, a digital-to-analog conversion to a decoded image data to generate an image signal for output.

10. The image processing method of claim 7 , further comprising:

receiving, via control by the processor and at an interface, the encoded image data as an input and outputting a processing result of the encoded image data.

11. An image processing apparatus comprising:

processing circuitry configured to:

decode an encoded image data having a plurality of blocks of encoded image data which are generated from a plurality of blocks of image data encoded by encoding types defined in the respective blocks of image data;

select one or more filtering methods to be applied to the decoded blocks of image data based on transform block edges of the blocks of image data to be filtered; and

apply filtering to the blocks of image data according to the selected one or more filtering methods.

12. The image processing apparatus of claim 11 , wherein

the filtering strength of the applied filtering is stronger when an encoding type of a first block of the image data is not different from an encoding type of a second block of the image data adjacent to the first block of the image data.

13. The image processing apparatus of claim 12 , wherein

the processing circuitry is further configured to provide a decoded image data in an order for displaying on a display unit.

14. The image processing apparatus of claim 12 , wherein

the processing circuitry is further configured to apply a digital-to-analog conversion to a decoded image data to generate an image signal for output.

15. An image processing method of decoding an encoded image data having a plurality of blocks of encoded image data which are generated from a plurality of blocks of image data encoded by encoding types defined in the respective blocks of image data, wherein the image processing method is performed via control by a processor of an image processing apparatus, and the method comprises:

a first step of selecting, via control by the processor, one or more filtering methods to be applied to the decoded blocks of image data based on transform block edges of the blocks of image data to be filtered; and

a second step of applying filtering, via control by the processor, to the blocks of image data according to the selected one or more filtering methods.

16. The image processing method of claim 15 , wherein
