Abstract

A method of automatically tracking the portions of a 3D medical imaging volume, such as the voxels, that have already been displayed according to use-defined display parameters, notating those portions, and providing the user with information indicating what portions of the imaging volume have been displayed at full resolution.

determine at least one display parameter that is associated with a three dimensional imaging volume comprising a plurality of voxels, the at least one display parameter determined from a plurality of display parameters, wherein the at least one display parameter is determined to be associated with the three dimensional imaging volume based on one or more of a user of the computing system, a type of user of the computing system, a modality of the three dimensional imaging volume, an exam type associated with the three dimensional imaging volume, a group of exams of which the three dimensional imaging volume is a part, a group of users of the computing system of which the user is a member, a facility in which the three dimensional imaging volume is displayed, and/or a system on which the three dimensional imaging volume is displayed;

selectively display portions of the three dimensional imaging volume; and

determine whether portions of the three dimensional imaging volume have been displayed according to the at least one display parameter that is associated with the three dimensional imaging volume,

wherein the at least one display parameter indicates that the plurality of voxels are to be displayed at a particular resolution.

2. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one display parameter is determined to be associated with the three dimensional imaging volume based on two or more of a user of the computing system, a type of user of the computing system, a modality of the three dimensional imaging volume, an exam type associated with the three dimensional imaging volume, a group of exams of which the three dimensional imaging volume is a part, a group of users of the computing system of which the user is a member, a facility in which the three dimensional imaging volume is displayed, and/or a system on which the three dimensional imaging volume is displayed.

3. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one display parameter is associated with a particular user, and the at least one display parameter is determined to be associated with the three dimensional imaging volume when the three dimensional imaging volume is displayed to the user.

4. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one display parameter is associated with an exam type, and the at least one display parameter is determined to be associated with the three dimensional imaging volume when the three dimensional imaging volume is of the exam type.

5. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one display parameter further indicates that all the plurality of voxels are to be displayed.

6. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one display parameter further indicates that a particular percentage of the plurality of voxels are to be displayed.

7. A method comprising:

determining, by a computing system having one or more computer processors, at least one display parameter that is associated with a three dimensional imaging volume comprising a plurality of voxels, the at least one display parameter determined from a plurality of display parameters;

receiving, at the computing system, indications of portions of the three dimensional imaging volume that are selectively displayed; and

determining, by the computing system and based on the indications, whether portions of the three dimensional imaging volume have been displayed according to the at least one display parameter that is associated with the three dimensional imaging volume,

wherein the at least one display parameter indicates that the plurality of voxels are to be displayed at a particular resolution.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the at least one display parameter is determined to be associated with the three dimensional imaging volume based on one or more of a user of the computing system and/or another computing system, a type of user of the computing system and/or another computing system, a modality of the three dimensional imaging volume, an exam type associated with the three dimensional imaging volume, a group of exams of which the three dimensional imaging volume is a part, a facility in which the three dimensional imaging volume is displayed, and/or a system on which the three dimensional imaging volume is displayed.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the at least one display parameter is associated with a particular user type, and the at least one display parameter is determined to be associated with the three dimensional imaging volume when the three dimensional imaging volume is displayed to a user of the user type.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the at least one display parameter is associated with a group of users, and the at least one display parameter is determined to be associated with the three dimensional imaging volume when the three dimensional imaging volume is displayed to a user of the group of users.

11. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

in response to determining that not all of the determined portions of the three dimensional imaging volume have been displayed according to the at least one display parameter, providing a visual and/or audible warning to a user via the computing system.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein the at least one display parameter further indicates that any of the plurality of voxels associated with computer-aided detection processes are to be displayed.

13. A computing system comprising:

one or more computer processors;

a computer readable storage medium storing instructions configured for execution by the one or more computer processors in order to cause the computing system to simultaneously display to a user at least:

a first image plane generated from a three dimensional imaging volume comprising a plurality of voxels; and

a second image plane generated from the three dimensional imaging volume to the user, the second image plane different from the first image plane,

wherein the displayed second image plane includes an indication of portions of the three dimensional imaging volume that have been displayed to the user according to user-defined display parameters, and

wherein the first and/or second image planes are generated via multiplanar reformatting.

14. The computing system of claim 13 , wherein the second image plane comprises a navigation image plane.

15. The computing system of claim 14 , wherein the navigation image plane is displayed at a reduced resolution as compared to the first image plane.

16. The computing system of claim 15 , wherein the navigation image plane is displayed at a reduced size as compared to the first image plane.

17. The computing system of claim 13 , wherein the indication includes at least one of a change of color, an icon, a text message, or an audible feedback.

18. The computing system of claim 13 , wherein the instructions are further configured for execution in order to cause the computing system to:

in response to an input from the user selecting a portion of the three dimensional imaging volume via the second image plane, generate an updated first image plane displaying a portion of the three dimensional imaging volume corresponding to the selected portion.

19. A computing system comprising:

one or more computer processors;

a computer readable storage medium storing instructions configured for execution by the one or more computer processors in order to cause the computing system to:

simultaneously display to a user at least:
