Abstract

A differential signal transmission cable includes a pair of conductors arranged to be distant from each other and parallel to each other, an insulator covering the pair of conductors, the insulator having a transversal cross section including a width in a minor axis direction and a width in a major axis direction greater than the width in the minor axis direction, and an outer periphery shape having curved lines, and a shield conductor wound around the insulator, the shield conductor including a seam or an overlapping region along a longitudinal direction of the insulator.

Claims (24)

1. A differential signal transmission cable, comprising:

a pair of conductors arranged to be spaced from each other and parallel to each other;

an insulator covering the pair of conductors, the insulator having a transversal cross section comprising a width in a minor axis direction and a width in a major axis direction greater than the width in the minor axis direction, and an outer periphery shape having curved lines; and

a shield conductor wound in a cylindrical roll around the insulator with a seam entirely along a longitudinal direction of the insulator or an overlapping region entirely along the longitudinal direction of the insulator,

wherein a distance between the pair of conductors is less than distances from the pair of conductors to the shield conductor,

wherein, in the major axis direction, the distance between the pair of conductors is defined as a distance between a periphery of one of the pair of conductors and a periphery of another one of the pair of conductors that faces the periphery of said one of the pair of conductors,

wherein, in the major axis direction, the distances from the pair of conductors to the shield conductor are defined as a distance between the shield conductor and another periphery of said one of the pair of conductors that faces the shield conductor, and a distance between the shield conductor and another periphery of said another one of the pair of conductors that faces the shield conductor, and

wherein no gap is provided between the shield conductor and the insulator.

2. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the shield conductor comprises an insulating member facing to the insulator, and an electrically conductive film provided on an outer surface of the insulating member.

3. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 2 , wherein the electrically conductive film is soldered.

4. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , further comprising a binder tape spirally wound around the shield conductor.

5. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein a drain wire is absent within the shield conductor.

6. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the distances from the pair of conductors to the shield conductor are measured along a plane passing through the pair of conductors.

7. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the pair of conductors and the shield conductor are configured so as to allow differential signals of 10 Gbs.

8. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the shield conductor continuously contacts an outer periphery of the insulator at the transversal cross section.

9. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the shield conductor is under tension so as to apply a normal force around an entire circumference thereof.

10. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the major axis direction is a direction passing through the pair of conductors.

11. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein, in the major axis direction, a shortest distance between the pair of conductors is less than a shortest distance from the pair of conductors to the shield conductor.

12. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 11 , wherein the shortest distance from the pair of conductors to the shield conductor is measured along a plane passing through the pair of conductors.

13. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the insulator comprises a single layer that extends from a surface of the shield conductor to surfaces of the pair of conductors.

14. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the shield conductor abuts an outer surface of the insulator.

15. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein a minor axis of the transversal cross section is in a range of 0.37 times to 0.63 times of a major axis of the transversal cross section.

16. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the seam extends along the longitudinal direction of the insulator such that one end of the cylindrical roll abuts another end of the cylindrical roll along the longitudinal direction of the insulator.

17. The differential signal transmission cable according to claim 1 , wherein the overlapping region extends along the longitudinal direction of the insulator such that one end of the cylindrical roll overlaps another end of the cylindrical roll along the longitudinal direction of the insulator.
