Abstract

Systems and methods of the present invention provide for displaying, suggesting and registering available domain names on a client computer based on selected geographical locations from online mapping service software or a geo-location software. Any combination of an online mapping software and a domain name registration software may receive a selection of one or more geographical locations within a displayed geographical area. Alternatively, a location of a client computer may be detected using the geo-location software. One or more available domain names may be parse for keywords related to the selected geographical area, and one or more available domain names may be suggested based on the selected keywords.

Claims (86)

1. A method, comprising the steps of:

receiving, by a server computer communicatively coupled to a network, a command from a user interface zooming control on a graphical user interface, to display a map on the graphical user interface for a geographic region displaying a plurality of cities, each of the plurality of cities located at a unique horizontal and vertical position on the map;

rendering, by the server computer, on the graphical user interface, the map comprising the geographic region;

for each city in the plurality of cities displayed on the map:

executing, by the server computer, a query to identify a domain name in a plurality of available domain names comprising a name of the city;

generating, by the server computer, a user interface control configured to register the domain name; and

rendering, by the server computer, the user interface control on the graphical user interface at a position determined by the unique horizontal and vertical position on the map; and

transmitting, by the server computer, the graphical user interface to a client computer for display.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the geographic region comprises a continent, country, region, state, county, or area.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising the steps of:

identifying, by the server computer, a text string associated with the city;

searching, by the server computer, a database comprising the a domain name, to determine whether the domain name comprises the text string; and

responsive to a determination that the domain name comprises the text string, identifying, by the server computer, the domain name as relevant to the city.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:

identifying, by the server computer, within a database coupled to the network, a plurality of coordinates of each city in the plurality of cities on the map;

overlaying, by the server computer, the user interface control on the map at the plurality of coordinates;

receiving, by the server computer, from the user interface control, a request to register the domain name; and

registering, by the server computer, the domain name.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

receiving the command further comprises receiving a subject matter keyword; and

identifying the domain name further comprises the domain name being relevant to the city and the subject matter keyword.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:

identifying, by the server computer, a text string associated with each city in the plurality of cities;

determining, by the server computer, whether a database, coupled to the network, comprises a primary market domain name that is an exact match for the text string;

responsive to a determination that the database comprises a primary market domain name that is an exact match for the text string, adding, by the server computer, the primary market domain name to the domain name;

determining, by the server computer, whether the database comprises a secondary market domain name comprising the text string; and

responsive to a determination that the database comprises the secondary market domain name comprising the text string, adding, by the server computer, the secondary market domain name to the domain name.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:

Identifying, by the server computer, within a database coupled to the network, a plurality of coordinates associated in the database with the city; and

generating, by the server computer:

the map comprising the plurality of cities, each at the plurality of coordinates representing the unique horizontal and vertical position; and

the user interface control comprising the domain name and displayed on the map at the plurality of coordinates.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the step of storing, in a database coupled to the network:

a plurality of available domain names in a primary market;

a plurality of available domain names in a secondary market;

a plurality of maps comprising the map; and

a plurality of coordinates associated in the database with the plurality of maps.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

receiving the command further comprises the step of transmitting the command to an application program interface for a mapping software running on the server computer;

identifying the domain name further comprises the step of identifying, by the mapping software, within a database coupled to the network, a plurality of coordinates associated with the city; and

rendering the map further comprises the steps of generating, by the mapping software:

the map comprising the plurality of cities; and

the user interface control comprising the domain name and overlaid on the map at the plurality of coordinates.

10. A system, comprising at least one processor executing instructions causing a server computer, coupled to a network to:

receive a command from a user interface zooming control on a graphical user interface, to display a map on the graphical user interface for a geographic region displaying a plurality of cities, each located at a unique horizontal and vertical position on the map;

render on the graphical user interface, the map comprising the geographic region;

for each city in the plurality of cities displayed on the map:

execute a query to identify a domain name in a plurality of available domain names comprising a name of the city; and

generate a user interface control configured to register the domain name; and

render the user interface control on the graphical user interface at a position determined by the unique horizontal and vertical position on the map; and

transmit the graphical user interface to a client computer for display.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the geographic region comprises a continent, country, region, state, county, or area.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the server computer is further configured to:

identify a text string associated with the city;

search a database comprising the domain name, to determine whether the domain name comprises the text string; and

responsive to a determination that the domain name comprises the text string, identify the domain name as relevant to the city.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the server computer is further configured to:

identify, within a database coupled to the network, a plurality of coordinates of each city in the plurality of cities on the map;

overlay the user interface control on the map at the at plurality of coordinates;

receive, from the user interface control, a request to register the domain name; and

register the domain name.

14. The system of claim 10 , wherein the server computer is further configured to:

receive a subject matter keyword; and

identify the domain name, wherein the domain name is relevant to the city and the subject matter keyword.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the server computer is further configured to:

identify a text string;

determine whether a database, coupled to the network, comprises a primary market domain name that is an exact match for the text string;

responsive to a determination that the database comprises a primary market domain name that is an exact match for the text string, add the primary market domain name to the domain name;

determine whether the database comprises a secondary market domain name comprising the text string; and

responsive to a determination that the database comprises the secondary market domain name comprising the text string, add the secondary market domain name to the domain name.

16. The system of claim 10 , wherein the server computer is further configured to:

identify, within a database coupled to the network, a plurality of coordinates associated in the database with the city; and

generate:

the map comprising the plurality of cities, each at the plurality of coordinates representing the unique horizontal and vertical position; and

the user interface control comprising the domain name and displayed on the map at the plurality of coordinates.

17. The system of claim 10 , wherein the server computer is further configured to store, in a database coupled to the network:

a plurality of available domain names in a primary market;

a plurality of available domain names in a secondary market;
