Median lobe destruction apparatus and method
View Patent ↗A system and associated method for altering or destroying tissues and anatomical or other structures in medical applications for the purpose of treating diseases or disorders. In one aspect, the system includes a device configured to deploy devices for altering the lobes of a prostate.
1. A system for treating a median prostatic lobe of a patient, comprising:
a handle configured to remain outside the patient;
an actuator operable by a user after the system has been placed partially within a urethra;
an introducer coupled to the handle and configured to be placed within the urethra of the patient;
a needle advanceable from the introducer by operation of the actuator to move through a curved trajectory to align with the handle, the needle being extendable from a portion of the system placed within the urethra and the needle being sized and configured to form an initial penetration track within the median prostatic lobe, wherein the needle exits from a side of the introducer;
an elongate member including a cutting blade with a hooked distal end, the elongate member being advanceable within and beyond a distal end of the needle while the distal end of the needle is within the median prostatic lobe;
and an elongate cylindrical implant deliverable through the introducer to be implanted in a passageway through the median prostatic lobe;
wherein the system is configured to treat the median prostatic lobe by dissecting and removing a portion of the median prostatic lobe.
2. The system of claim 1 wherein the system is sized and configured to be advanced into an ejaculatory duct.
3. The system of claim 1 further comprising a vacuum element for applying vacuum to remove tissue from the median lobe.
4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the elongate member comprises articulating cutting arms configured to cut median lobe tissue.
5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the elongate member comprises an expandable cutter configured to cut median lobe tissue.
6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the elongate member comprises a blunt dissector configured to dissect median lobe tissue.
7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the blunt dissector further comprises a cutter blade.
8. The system of claim 1 further comprising a needle retraction lever that withdrawals the needle from the median prostatic lobe to be housed within the introducer.
9. The system of claim 1 wherein the needle is configured to advance from the introducer by means of hand, spring, electrical power or pneumatic power.
10. The system of claim 9 wherein the distal end of the needle is configured to receive positional feedback from the tissue and adjust the extension distance of the needle.
11. A device for intra-urethral treatment of a median prostatic lobe of a patient, comprising:
a handle configured to remain outside the patient and including an actuator operable by a user;
an introducer coupled to the handle and configured to be placed within the urethra of the patient;
a needle advanceable, by operation of the actuator, to exit from a side of the introducer to move through a curved trajectory to align with the handle and sized and configured to form an initial penetration track within the median prostatic lobe and configured to capture a dissected portion of the median prostatic lobe;
an elongate member carried by the needle and advanceable within and beyond a distal end of the needle while the distal end of the needle is within the median prostatic lobe, the elongate member comprising a cutting blade;
and an elongate cylindrical implant deliverable through the introducer to be implanted in a passageway through the median prostatic lobe.
12. The device of claim 11 wherein the elongate member is configured to dissect a portion of the median prostatic lobe.
13. The device of claim 11 wherein the needle is configured to be in fluid connection with a vacuum source.
14. The device of claim 11 wherein the introducer is configured to be in fluid connection with a vacuum source.
