SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING RIGHTS MANAGEMENT SERVICES FOR NETWORK SERVICES
A first device implements an application platform that is shared with a second device. The application platform can be implemented so that the first device and the second device operate to have a same identity to at least the network service. The first device provides a user interface in order to receive input for accessing or using the network service. Additionally, the first device communicates input received in response to providing the user interface to the network service. The first device can receive a token from the network service in response to communicating the input. Additionally, the first device can communicate a set of data items to the second device. The set of data items includes the token and one or more identifiers that enable the second device to access and use the network service while appearing as the first device to the network service.

determining the network service that is specified by the communication;
determining one or more control parameters for the communication that are based on the set of rights management rules for the determined network service;
determining a set of playback links for accessing media resources identified by the set of identifiers for the determined network service; and
providing the set of playback links to a playback device identified by the communication, the set of links being provided with the one or more control parameters.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein storing the plurality of network service libraries includes storing a collection of link data for each network service, the link data for each network service identifying media resources provided by that network service; and
wherein determining the set of playback links includes correlating individual identifiers to a corresponding playback link in the set of playback links using the link data.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more control parameters control a sequence in which the set of playback links can be used on the playback device.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more control parameters control an action that can be performed when one or more of the playback links in the set of playback links are used.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more control parameters control a number of times that the user can skip a particular playback link when using the network service with the set of playback links.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more control parameters control a duration of time that the user can receive media resources from the network service.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the communication is received from a device other than the playback device.
8 . A computer system comprising:
a memory to store a plurality of network service libraries, each network service library being associated with a corresponding network service, each network service library comprising a set of rights management rules for the network service;
one or more processors that access the memory to:
store a plurality of network service libraries, each network service library being associated with a corresponding network service, each network service library comprising a set of rights management rules for the network service;
receive a communication from a device, the communication including a set of identifiers;
determine the network service that is specified by the communication;
determine one or more control parameters for the communication that are based on the set of rights management rules for the determined network service; and
determine a set of playback links for accessing media resources identified by the set of identifiers for the determined network service; and
provide the set of playback links to a playback device identified by the communication, the set of links being provided with the one or more control parameters.
9 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of network service libraries stored in the memory include a collection of link data for each network service, the link data for each network service identifying media resources provided by that network service; and
wherein the one or more processors determine the set of playback links by correlating individual identifiers to a corresponding playback link in the set of playback links using the link data.
10 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more control parameters control a sequence in which the set of playback links can be used on the playback device.
11 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more control parameters control an action that can be performed when one or more of the playback links in the set of playback links are used.
12 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more control parameters control a number of times that the user can skip a particular playback link when using the network service with the set of playback links.
13 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more control parameters control a duration of time that the user can receive media resources from the network service.
14 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the communication is received from a device other than the playback device.
15 . A method for controlling a playback device, the method being implemented by one or more processors and comprising:
structuring a first set of links, so that each link in the first set of links (i) identifies a data item on a corresponding first network service, and (ii) links to an intermediary network service; and
signaling the first set of links to a playback device to cause the playback device to access the intermediary network service.
16 . The method of claim 29 , further comprising detecting a user interface event generated as a result of the playback device accessing the network service, and providing a user interface for enabling a user to respond to the user interface event.
17 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the data item corresponds to a title that is available for streaming from the network service.
18 . A computing device comprising:
a memory that stores a set of instructions;
one or more processors that use the set of instructions to:
structure a first set of links, so that each link in the first set of links (i) identifies a data item on a corresponding first network service, and (ii) links to an intermediary network service; and
signal the first set of links to a playback device to cause the playback device to access the intermediary network service.
19 . The computing device of claim 18 , wherein the one or more processors detect a user interface event generated as a result of the playback device accessing the network service, and providing a user interface for enabling a user to respond to the user interface event.
20 . The computing device of claim 18 , wherein the data item corresponds to a title that is available for streaming from the network service.
