Abstract

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for the creation and dispensing of a custom formulation within a package at a retail point of sale. In one aspect, the invention includes an automated dispensing apparatus including at least a two-axis robot arm. In another aspect, the invention includes an automated mixer adapted to mix the dispensed custom formulation within the package.

Claims (28)

1. A retail point of sale customized dispensing apparatus, the apparatus comprising:

a retail point of sale dispenser;

at least one carrier including:

i) a plurality of mounts; and

ii) a plurality of ingredient containers and applicators and/or caps removably attached to the at least one carrier via the plurality of mounts;

one or more information retrieval devices;

a user interface including a data interface adapted to store information on the one or more information retrieval devices;

a robotic arm capable of movement along at least one axis, wherein the robotic arm is configured with a grasping mechanism for removal, attachment and manipulation of an ingredient container and wherein the robotic arm is configured for dispensing of one or more ingredients;

a transparent panel covering at least a portion of the dispensing apparatus; and

wherein the one or more information retrieval devices are adapted to be maintained in possession of a user.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the robotic arm is capable of movement along at least two axes.

The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more ingredients are selected from the group consisting of antibacterial compositions, moisturizing compositions, dental bleaching compositions, hair removal compositions, bronzer compositions, body shimmer compositions, hair shimmer/color compositions, makeup remover compositions, nail polish remover compositions, acne treatment compositions, hair bleaching compositions, deodorant compositions, perfume compositions, sun protection compositions, lip color composition, pigment composition, flavoring compositions, exfoliation compositions and anti-aging compositions.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more ingredients include a lip color composition, a pigment composition, a flavoring composition or combinations thereof.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more information retrieval devices are a radio frequency identification device.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more information retrieval devices store information relating to an amount of products purchased, consumed, or dispensed from the dispensing apparatus, and

wherein the one or more information retrieval devices are configured to make recommendations of ingredients to be dispensed from the dispensing apparatus based upon information stored in the one or more information retrieval devices.

7. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the apparatus transfers a product to a user after a product is ordered online or after a user has moved away from the apparatus and then returned to the apparatus after a lapsed period of time.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the product is transferred to a user once a signal is received from the one or more information retrieval devices.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the robotic arm is movably located adjacent to a first carrier having a plurality of linearly disposed ingredient containers and a second carrier having a plurality of linearly disposed caps and/or applicators.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the robotic arm is adapted for placement of a cap and/or applicator onto the container upon completion of dispensing.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the robotic arm is capable of movement along at least three axes.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ingredient containers include a liquid cosmetic.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ingredient containers include a powder cosmetic.

14. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the robotic arm includes a stepper motor for movement in at least one axis.

15. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein one or more ingredients from the plurality of ingredients containers are dispensed into a package container.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the package container includes one or more applicators for application.

17. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein one or more ingredients from the plurality of ingredients containers are dispensed onto a patch.

18. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein one or more ingredients from the plurality of ingredients containers are dispensed onto a towelette or wipe.
