Abstract

A composition including an ethylene blocking agent complex formed from the product of an ethylene blocking agent and a host, and at least one water-soluble polymer, wherein the ethylene blocking agent complex and the at least one water-soluble polymer are intermingled is disclosed.

Claims (27)

1. A dispersion comprising:

an ethylene blocking agent complex comprising the product of an ethylene blocking agent selected from the group consisting of cyclopropene, 1-methylcyclopropene, 3,3-dimethycyclopropene, methylenecyclopropane and derivatives thereof and a host selected from the group consisting of cyclodextrins and crown ethers; and

at least one degradable polymer selected from the group consisting of polyesters, polyurethanes, polyethers, and polyanhydrides,

wherein a ratio of degradable polymer to ethylene blocking agent complex is in the range from 1:1 to 1:9 by weight.

2. The dispersion of claim 1 , wherein the ethylene blocking agent comprises 1-methylcyclopropene.

3. The dispersion of claim 1 , wherein the degradable polymer comprises polyester resins obtained from the reaction of bisphenol A and propylene oxide followed by the reaction of the resulting product with fumaric acid.

4. The dispersion of claim 1 , wherein the degradable polymer comprises the esterification products of a di- or poly-carboxylic acid and a diol comprising a diphenol.

5. The dispersion of claim 1 , wherein the degradable polymer comprises at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of ethylenically unsaturated mono- and di-functional carboxylic acids, ethylenically unsaturated mono- and di-functional carboxylic acid anhydrides, salts thereof and esters thereof.

6. The dispersion of claim 1 , further comprising an ethylene generating agent.

7. The dispersion of claim 1 , wherein the host comprises alpha-cyclodextrin.

8. The dispersion of claim 1 , further comprising a water-insoluble polymer.

9. The dispersion of claim 8 , wherein a ratio of degradable polymer to water-insoluble polymer is in the range from 50:1 to 1:50.

10. The dispersion of claim 1 , wherein the ethylene blocking agent complex comprises from 0.05 to 0.5 percent by weight ethylene blocking agent.

11. The dispersion of claim 1 , further comprising at least one of an herbicide, a fungicide, a growth factor, an insecticide, and a fertilizer.

12. The dispersion of claim 1 , further comprising water.

13. The dispersion of claim 1 , further comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone.

14. The dispersion of claim 1 , further comprising at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters, polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers, polyoxyethylene castor oil derivatives, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, or polyalcohols commonly used in food, food service, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical products, mono and diglycerides of fatty acids, and polyoxyethylene sorbitol esters.

15. The dispersion of claim 1 , further comprising a thickener selected from the group consisting of silicon dioxide, xanthan gums, polyacrylamide polymers' and polyacrylamide gels, methylcellulose, and carboxyl methylcellulose.

16. A method of forming a dispersion comprising mixing;

(a) a dispersing medium comprising a mixture of at least one of water and solvent;

(b) an ethylene blocking agent complex comprising the product of an ethylene blocking agent selected from the group consisting of cyclopropene, 1-methylcyclopropene, 3,3-dimethycyclopropene, methylenecyclopropane and derivatives thereof and a host selected from the group consisting of cyclodextrins and crown ethers; and

(c) at least one degradable polymer selected from the group consisting of polyesters, polyurethanes, polyethers, and polyanhydrides

to form a dispersion,

wherein a ratio of degradable polymer to ethylene blocking agent complex is in the range from 1:1 to 1:9 by weight.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein mixing comprises melt kneading.

18. The method of claim 16 wherein mixing further comprises (d) a dispersion stabilizing agent.

19. The method of claim 16 wherein mixing further comprises (e) at least one of a frothing surfactant, an additive, and a filler.
