Abstract

Techniques and systems for performing a network activity within a network. The technique includes assigning one or a plurality of network devices subnets with network devices for performing network activities. Network devices within the assigned network device subnets can be assigned to act as a primary network device and a backup network device. The primary network device can perform the network activity. The backup network devices can monitor the primary network device and continue performing the network activities if the primary network device fails or is rogue.

assigning, by a primary network device assignment engine, a first network device in the one or more assigned subnets as a primary network device, the first network device being within the assigned geographic region;

assigning, by a backup network device assignment engine, a second network device in the one or more assigned subnets as a backup network device, the backup network device being within the assigned geographic region;

determining, by a network device activity engine, whether the primary network device is not capable of performing the network activities;

configuring, by a network device configuration engine, the backup network device to perform the network activities if the primary network device is not capable of performing the network activities.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the network activities are determined from a request to perform a task over the network or implement a method into the network.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the primary network device and the backup network device are assigned based on the network device information and the network activities.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the network device information is retrieved from a resource table.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the network device information includes resource information about the network devices in the one or more network device subnets.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

determining whether the primary network device is not capable of performing the network activities comprises monitoring the performing of the network activities to determine whether or not the primary network device has failed or is rogue;

configuring the backup network device to perform the network activities comprises performing, by the backup network device, the network activities if the primary network device has failed or is rogue.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising, sending a network activity log from the primary network device to the backup network device.

8. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

if it is determined that the primary network device has failed or is rogue,

monitoring the primary network device to determine whether or not the primary network device is still failed or is still rogue;

performing, by the primary network device, the network activities if the primary network device is no longer failed or rogue.

9. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

if it is determined that the primary network device has failed or is rogue,

monitoring the primary network device to determine whether or not the primary network device is still failed or is still rogue;

performing, by the primary network device, the network activities if the primary network device is no longer failed or rogue;

sending a network activity log from the backup network device to the primary network device.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the first network device and the second network device comprises a wireless network device.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the network activities are determined based on a constraint inputted by a user or an administrator.

12. A system for performing a network activity within a network, the system comprising:

a network device management system configured to:

determine network activities that need to be performed;

receive network device information about network devices in one or more network device subnets;

a network device subnet assignment engine configured to:

assign the one or more network device subnets that contain the network devices to perform the network activities as one or more assigned subnets, each of the one or more assigned subnets physically located within an assigned geographic region and assigned based on activity types of the network activities and the assigned geographic region as indicated by the network device information;

assign a first network device in the one or more assigned subnets as a primary network device, the first network device being within the assigned geographic region;

assign a second network device in the one or more assigned subnets as a backup network device, the backup network device being within the assigned geographic region;

determine whether the primary network device is not capable of performing the network activities;

configure the backup network device to perform the network activities if the primary network device is not capable of performing the network activities.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the network device management system determines the network activities from a received request to perform a task over the network or implement a method into the network.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the primary network device and the backup network device are assigned based on the network device information and the network activities.

15. The system of claim 12 , wherein the network device information is retrieved from a resource table.

16. The system of claim 12 , wherein the network device information includes resource information about the network devices in the one or more network device subnets.

17. The system of claim 12 , wherein:

the network device subnet assignment engine is configured to:

monitor the primary network device performing the network activities to determine whether or not the primary network device has failed or is rogue;

configure the backup network device to perform the network activities if the primary network device has failed or is rogue.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein, the primary network device is configured to send a network activity log to the backup network device.

19. The system of claim 17 , wherein:

the backup network device is further configured to monitor the primary network device to determine whether or not the primary network device is still failed or is still rogue, if the backup network device has determined that the primary network device has failed or is rogue;

the primary network device is further configured to perform the network activities if the primary network device is no longer failed or rogue.

20. The system of claim 17 , wherein:

the backup network device is further configured to monitor the primary network device to determine whether or not the primary network device is still failed or is still rogue, if the backup network device has determined that the primary network device has failed or is rogue;

the primary network device is further configured to perform the network activities if the primary network device is no longer failed or rogue;
