Abstract

A unitary sheet-like merchandise labeling article that has a labeling tag flatly conjoined along a unifying flat bond zone with a flexible elastic layer that extends away from the tag and includes an elastic fastening loop. The loop sides that define the loop are wider than the thickness of the elastic layer. Further, the flexible elastic layer that extends away from the tag has a thickness greater than the thickness of the tag and has a dispersion zone adjacent the unifying flat bond zone. The dispersion zone allows dissipation of elastic loop in-line stretching forces sufficiently to reduce transmission of such forces into the bond zone.

Claims (32)

1. A labeling article comprising:

a label portion having a first surface and a second surface that opposes the first surface; and

a stretchable portion comprising:

a first section heat sealed to the label portion; and

a second section having a fastening opening that is spaced apart from the label portion.

2. The labeling article of claim 1 , wherein the stretchable portion further comprises an intermediate section that connects the first section and the second section.

3. The labeling article of claim 2 , wherein an intersection of the second section and the intermediate section defines a neck indentation.

4. The labeling article of claim 1 , wherein the stretchable portion comprises an elastomeric material.

5. The labeling article of claim 1 , wherein the first section of the stretchable portion is heat sealed to the label portion such that the first section and the label portion are flatly conjoined.

6. The labeling article of claim 1 , wherein the label portion further comprises an edge extending between the first and second surfaces, and wherein the first section of the stretchable portion abuts against the edge of the label portion.

7. The labeling article of claim 6 , wherein the first section of the stretchable portion is heat sealed to the label portion at least at the first surface of the label portion.

8. A labeling article comprising:

a label portion having a first surface and a second surface that opposes the first surface; and

a stretchable portion comprising:

a first section heat sealed to at least the first surface of the label portion; and

a second section having a fastening opening, wherein the second section extends away from the label portion.

9. The labeling article of claim 8 , wherein, when the labeling article is arranged in a flat form, the second section does not overlap the label portion.

10. The labeling article of claim 8 , wherein the stretchable portion comprises an elastomeric material.

11. The labeling article of claim 8 , wherein the first section of the stretchable portion is not heat sealed to the second surface of the label portion.

12. The labeling article of claim 8 , wherein the label portion is non-stretchable.

13. The labeling article of claim 8 , wherein the fastening opening has an inner circumference with a proximal end that is about ⅛-inch or greater from a location at which the first section is heat sealed to the label portion.

14. A method of using a labeling article, the method comprising:

providing the labeling article having a label portion and a stretchable portion, wherein the stretchable portion has a first section heat sealed to the label portion and a second section having a fastening opening that is spaced apart from the label portion;

expanding the fastening opening of the stretchable portion;

introducing one or more articles through the expanded fastening opening; and

at least partially retracting the expansion of the fastening opening around the one or more introduced articles to secure the second section of the stretchable portion around the one or more introduced articles and such that the label portion hangs from the first section.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the one or more introduced articles comprises a plurality of introduced articles, and wherein securing the second section of the stretchable portion around the plurality of introduced articles binds the plurality of introduced articles together.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein expanding the fastening opening of the stretchable portion generates in-line tension forces, and wherein the method further comprises dispersing at least a portion of the in-line tension forces with a dispersion section of the stretchable portion that is located between the first section and the second section of the stretchable portion.

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the label portion has a first surface and a second surface that opposes the first surface, and wherein the first section of the stretchable portion is heat sealed to the label portion at least at the first surface of the label portion.

18. The method of claim 14 , wherein the label portion is non-stretchable.

19. The method of claim 14 , wherein the first section of the stretchable portion is heat sealed to the label portion such that the first section and the label portion are flatly conjoined.

20. The method of claim 14 , wherein expanding the fastening opening of the stretchable portion does not stretch the first section of the stretchable portion that is heat sealed to the label portion.
