Abstract

The present invention relates to a polymer composition with improved electrical properties and to a use thereof preferably in electrical devices as well as to a cable surrounded by at least one layer including the polymer composition.

Claims (22)

1. A cable comprising a conductor surrounded by one or more layers, wherein at least one of said layer(s) is an insulation layer which comprises a polymer composition comprising:

(a) a polyolefin which is an unsaturated LDPE polymer, which is selected from an unsaturated LDPE homopolymer or an unsaturated LDPE copolymer of ethylene with one or more comonomer(s);

(b) peroxide, and

(c) an anionic exchanger additive of hydrotalcite type in an amount of 0.0001 to 0.015 wt %, based on the total weight of the polymer composition.

2. The cable according to claim 1 , comprising a conductor surrounded by at least an inner semiconductive layer, an insulation layer and an outer semiconductive layer, in that order, wherein at least one layer comprises a polymer composition comprising:

(a) a polyolefin which is an unsaturated LDPE polymer, which is selected from an unsaturated LDPE homopolymer or an unsaturated LDPE copolymer of ethylene with one or more comonomer(s);

(b), peroxide, and

(c) an anionic exchanger additive of hydrotalcite type in an amount of 0.0001 to 0.015 wt %, based on the total weight of the polymer composition.

3. The cable according to previous claim 1 , wherein the cable is crosslinked by the peroxide (b).

4. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the cable is a power cable.

5. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the cable is a crosslinkable power cable.

6. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the cable is a crosslinkable direct current (DC) power cable.

7. The cable according to claim 2 , wherein the cable is a crosslinkable HV or EHV DC power cable.

8. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the amount of the peroxide is of less than 35 mmol —O—O—/kg polymer composition.

9. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of said layer(s) is an insulation layer.

10. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one said layer(s) consists of the said polymer composition.

11. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the polyolefin is an unsaturated LDPE homopolymer or an unsaturated LDPE copolymer of ethylene with one or more comonomer(s) which contains vinyl groups.

12. The cable according to claim 11 , wherein the total amount of vinyl groups present in the unsaturated LDPE is higher than 0.05/1000 carbon atoms when measured according to “Method for determination of the amount of double bonds” described above in the description under “Determination methods”.

13. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the polyolefin (a) is an unsaturated LDPE copolymer of ethylene with at least one polyunsaturated comonomer and optionally with one or more other comonomer(s).

14. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the polyolefin (a) contains vinyl groups in total amount of more than 0.20/1000 carbon atoms.

15. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the ion exchanger additive (c) is an inorganic ion exchanger additive.

16. The cable according to claim 1 , wherein the ion exchanger additive (c) is an anion exchanger additive of hydrotalcite type.
